Scotch Mince is the name of the recipe, not it's origin ;):D
I'll post it up in the recipe section when I have more time if you like? We used to have scotch mince for school dinners, but basically, it's just a particular recipe for savoury mince.

Thanks Queenie, sorry am a bit dozy at this time on Sunday morning - only had two coffees so far, I will get better as day goes on! Will keep my eyes peeled for that, and either make it with real mince for OH or adapt with soya/quorn mince for me.

    Hi everyone

So far today I've done yet more washing! Got to take advantage of the good weather now it's finally arrived. Done the ironing as well (although there will still be today's load to to later). Started getting things ready to take away with me later this week - I'm going dog- and house-sitting while my friends are away for five weeks. It's not so much the clothes but all the technical stuff I need to survive on (chargers for the mobile, power thingy for the laptop, charger for the camera, supply of music I can't live without etc. etc!!!). Later this morning I've got to take back my new slow cooker to lakeland as I've noticed a crack in the casing (and I haven't used it yet!). This afternoon it will be case of doing the garden and getting the evening meal together. That's another weekend over - wherever does the time go?

    Enjoy whatever you're doing.
  • Got up a bit earlier today as I have lot's to do. Just having a cuppa before I start. I am doing a full-house clean today, upstairs and down (yawn!) and need to put a loaf in the breadmaker as I missed a day yesterday and had to resort to buying a loaf at the local shop  which my husband complained about as he says home-made bread is so much nicer. :D
I also plan on making a recipe I saw on a cooking programme on TV last week. Got all the ingredients together, so now I just need to make it.
Two loads of washing to do, including his grubby work clothes yuk!
Isn't Sunday supposed to be a day of rest? Not in this house, seems to be the day I get most things done :T
Have a nice day everyone and enjoy a :coffee: when you are done :D

    Hiya,

Well my day has ended while all yours are just beginning. I did some baking and ironing. Ho Hum. Cleaned the back screen door & the bathrooms screen windows as they were both disgusting. Caught up with some emails, read the Sunday papers and vegged out. Tomorrow is a public holiday. Queen's Birthday ...bless her little heart. :j Who wants to go republic. ;) Enjoy your day everyone, I'm going to watch some telly. Midsummer Murders are back on I love a good murder. :D
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Hey thanks for the tip for soya mince. I have a bag lurking in the freezer but scared of it! I bought 2 when it was on bogoff. Cooked one bag, made it into spag, lots of onion, garlic and toms to mask the 'no meatness' to the rest of family and it was awful...................truly awful. A friend suggested it takes on the 1st flavour it was cooked with, which was onion. Now the kids look suspicously at me when I do spag bol incase its the soya, but if I could sneak a bit in with real mince then I'm home and dry. I'd love to know the recipe for scotch mince too, I love mince and never have enough recipes for it. You lot are up and sorted washing early today can I say, I'm having 2nd coffee and blearily thinking of going swimming at 11.00 but with 1 child still fast asleep at present that will have to be rethunked!

    Morning all.

Awake early again (4.44) as DS1 decided he couldn't be bothered to put his own duvet back on his bed so he'd share ours. Still, tried to take it easy this morning - ie breakfast (for me) at 10ish.

The whole house has been hit by a tornado (namely 5 little boys yesterday), I've had to give one of DS2's fish a water burial (loo) and now tank needs cleaning as filter is clogged (over zealous feeding by DS2 when I'm not looking )

So, D/W on, washing machine about to go on, hoover upstairs ready for purge, meat defrosting for their teas. Oh, heating back on because it's freezing - well, it's only June and yes I have put extra clothes on too.

Maybe I'll have a :coffee: before I start.....

ps we can't get to grips with soya mince. Truly awful does just about sum it up. Can't disguise it well enough for my lot not to notice.

There was mention in another thread that the best thing to do is soak in it a liquid which already contains the flavour you would most like to impart to it. For beef you'd use oxo, or an equivalent, perhaps a dash of bovril/soy/worcester... otherwise if you just use water and then place it in a casserole it'll only pick up the casserole flavour (a bit) and mostly taste of nothing at all.

    Hi all,

Very lazy Sunday morning for me.. :D

Just done the weekly shop at Tesco though. Managed to spend £36.84 against our budget of £45.00, and I managed to buy extras of stuff on offer that were not on the list but we would need over the next month eg Baby wipes etc, so all in all very happy. :D Except.. Cashier wouldnt accept 2 20p off coupons for stuff they sold but we hadnt bought

Will probably spend this afternoon tending the veggies and fruit in the garden

    Have a good day all
24 hours in a day. 24 beers in a case ... coincidence?
  • Back from wedding. Very tired (very late night) but going to blitz bedroom and sort clothes to list on Ebay tonight.

Dinner will be from the freezer with some free vegetables from my mum.

Before MSE today would of been an afternoon shopping and a takeaway tonight.

    :D

Sorry should be on Sunday thread :o
