Electricity Meter - failed
Our electricity meter has a red LED on it - flashing and the display is blank
I assume that Scottish Power will need to replace it
But I don't want a smart meter - are they likely to try to insist that we get a smart meter
What will they do about the missed readings ?

When did you last read the meter yourself ? SP can use that as a basis.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

40 days ago - I used live chat - they are going to replace the meter on 6 OctoberSo far - no email confirming this thoughIn the meantime - I assume that we are free to make use of unlimited power for no extra charge ?Anyone want their electric cars charged etc ?0

"In the meantime - I assume that we are free to make use of unlimited power for no extra charge ?"I don't know but possibly they will estimate 40 days usage plus up to the 6th Oct. based on previous consumption?0

I had a (dumb) meter fail a couple of years, they just replaced it with another (dumb) meter.0

However if it readlly is not recording then go for it, no reason to converse power now!Note that the new merter will likely be the same meter as a smart meter, but not enabled. This means either no sim in or no seperate communications hub depending on the particular model. This is becuase the companies not longer need the older models becuase it would not be cost effectice to buy lots of different types. There is also a chance you will get an old meter that someone else got replaced with a smart meter but then do beware that it will again need changing within a few years. (If they do this be sure to photo the new meter read in case it goes though as zero (hey, do that anyway!)).0

You'll probably find that it's only the display that has failed and that your usage will be downloaded via its optical port before it is replaced with the new meter.0
