  • Surely when you go and apply for your new mortgage you will be asked for bank statements etc. How are you going to explain where the money has come from? Won’t they question it?

Every so often a thread comes along that you just want to know the answer. This is the most fun one I've read in ages.
Think most of my suggestions have already been posted but Ill throw in another one
An inheritance has come through that he's not told you about?
Out of curiousity how long have you been married? Have you experienced this behaviour of not explaining himself before?
An inheritance wouldn't usually explain unexpectedly large amounts of cash: it would appear in the bank account.

My money's on drug dealing. If he worked at a school, it'd be almost certain. What sort of setting does he work at OP? School, golf club, landed estate, housing association ...
Signature removed for peace of mind

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I was thinking more of the house and goodies being up for grabs when he’s done for being a criminal mastermind. Although most criminal masterminds aren’t daft enough to flaunt the goods right under everyone’s noses.
It was a response to your “no need to worry, just enjoy it” comment.
