 it just took me 9 minutes to load a page
The symptoms are rather strange. Performance is very, very lumpy. It’s only intermittent connections that are having a problem; a bit like rolling dice and saying your connection’s going to have a problem if you roll an even number. I can go for minutes with no problem. Then lots of them. Whether I’m having problems or not, the trace route is giving no response after one of the routers in Highwinds Network Group’s network. Unfortunately, that doesn’t definitively confirm a problem there. After MSE’s recent DDoS attack, a company called Prolexic Technologies was brought in to act as MSE website ‘bouncer’. Even the most complete trace route will stop at their hardware. Stopping all unnecessary packets of data and not giving out unnecessary information is part of Prolexic’s job.

The ‘solution’, I find, is to just keep retrying the web-page address. So, that’s repeatedly clicking on the link, or, if the address is in the address bar, clicking the go button or pressing the enter key. I find after whether it’s the next attempt, or ten down the line, one will go through quickly. I don’t have thatgirlsam’s patience. :) My solution to the problem may be rather unkind to the MSE webserver(s), but it works for me.

I've been having problems all day today too. Having to go via a web-proxy. OK MSE has never been the fastest website, often has go slows, more so since the DDOS attack, today has been a nightmare.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)

Not wanting to tempt providence, but is it just me or is it getting better by the minute:D :rotfl: Thanks techies:T

Obviously tempted providence:rotfl: Now getting chucked off again, but on the plus side getting back via favourites, and it's miles quicker.

Since this post it's getting worse again. Trouble getting back in, and losing reply to PMs
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

We are 100% technophobes in this house, but OH and me have just spent over an hour on two pc's doing the technical thingy that Webby asked us to do. We are well chuffed that we managed to do it.

We are so computer illiterate, it took us 3 goes to work out we have to press the enter key after the tracert ....... bit [ROTFL - my smilies don't work, in fact a lot of the editing tools don't work ..... or is it me?].

But we figure it's was worth it to help the site, Martin & co being shafted again and of course to keep all us posters getting our regular fix!
