  • Being the impatient person I am I thought I'd go for this today while I had time to apply.
    System error every time on every browser and when I called I was eventually put through to the switching team who are closed now til Monday !
    I have a feeling mine may be because I have an apostrophe in my surname which the halifax form makes me remove so it then doesn't match the information on the donor account ! Beyond frustrating .

    It would seem that the £500 debit card use has to be purchases, transfers into another account do not  count.  So that's my plan gone out the window.  Will just have to downgrade.
    Typically confused and asking for advice

    Payment to NS&I using debit card is a purchase and not a transfer.

    A money transfer (where you instruct the card issuer (Halifax) to transfer money to a bank account and then charge the balance to your card account) are not eligible as it won't go through as a debit card transaction - it isn't one. However, a payment into another account funded as a debit card transaction seem to be eligible. In essence, if you are providing someone other than Halifax your card details to effect the transaction, it will likely count.

    £500 'transferred' by debit card will probably work.
    But even if you don't do this it's not a reason to downgrade - as the £500 debit card use (for the £5 reward) isn't a condition of the account, it's an optional perk that you don't have to use or trigger.
    The main reason to downgrade would be if you can't transfer 1500 in each month, as otherwise they will charge you £3 a month.

    Quick question, whilst setting up my reward account (two days ago) I said I would spend £500 a month on debit card to claim my £5, I now feel I should have gone for the £5000 in account option.

    Is there a way I can change this? I have looked at my account and can’t find a way to change it.

    Can you advise please.

    I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
    The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
    There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
    I listen all night for your step on the stair.

    Why would you want to change it, you can use your debit card to make a deposit to a NS&I account for instance.
