Some of these holidays have been booked since last year , not on a whim last week.RyanHello said:in this current climate, why on earth would anyone book a holiday abroad at all? Just stay in this country for a break.
We were told with the opening of air corridor it was safe to fly.
Personally I'm probably more concerned travelling on our local buses , least the airlines enforce mask wearing and clean properly.
And "staying in this country" makes no difference to your chances of catching covid 19 as we've seen with the packed UK beaches.Ex forum ambassador

Ah yes the packed beaches that were meant to lead to second waves, along with the BLM demos, VE day celebrationa etc 🙄1

I got back from Spain on Thursday, everything was very well organised there, 100% of people wearing masks (even the OAP powerwalkers on the seafront), restaurant staff had them on, I would wear mine if I got up from the table, the beach (which was only busy on a weekend) was ploughed into 2m zones so everyone could distance. Way more organised than the UK, was planning to go back again in a few weeks return flights for two £116 with Whizz air, cheaper than staying at home.3

well they didn't care enough that they couldn't possibly do without their 2 week sin the sun, so i doubt they actually care about the health of people they do/don't knowsilvercar said:
Why would anyone pretend to comply and not actually do it? Would you want to be the one that infects work colleagues who then go on to infect their elderly relatives? Would you want to be responsible for someone's death/ long term illness?2 -

I generally do both. Lots of weekends caravanning and 3 weeks in France / Spain late August early September. This year I’ve no inclination to go abroad, partly still smarting about my lack of refund from lastminute.com and partly not willing to risk the uncertainty.RyanHello said:in this current climate, why on earth would anyone book a holiday abroad at all? However I’ve just started a weeks holiday in the Highlands, with a ‘mixed’ forecast. Constantly keeping an eye on the sky reminds me just why we go abroad.1 -

As already mentioned, people have had holidays booked for months, long before all of this. Do it yourself trips that would have been a nightmare to pick apart. People who would have lost thousands had they not gone abroad in the last few weeks. Are these people also irresponsible in your book?JamoLew said:

agreed - so the answer surely is to stop ALL international travel thenbradders1983 said:
I am 100% sure people will pretend which is the overall point. The system in place is as weak as water.

No - hence my comment about people who booked in the last few weeks0 -

Depends if you want a functioning travel industry after all of this is finished.JamoLew said:

Anyway, all this is incurring the wrath of the moderators as we are going wildly off topic.0

That's the dilemma - at what point is peoples health worth more that certain elements of any industry.
Not a decision that I would like to be making and is why I dislike all the government bashing, they are edoing what they think and are advised to for the best and won't get it right a lot of the time. There is no modern precedent
personally (from working within the NHS) - the infection rate is actually irrelevant - it's the mortality rate from NOT with CV-19 that is the important factor.
People getting sidetracked by irrelevant stats imho2
