Those who'd booked holidays before Corvid I feel for. They must have been on tenterhooks hoping they'd get their holiday. Anyone though who booked more recently and especially in the last few weeks knew they were taking a chance. Unfortunately it hasn't paid off for them.
My dd & her friends flew to one of the Canary Islands on Saturday afternoon to read the change to quarantine rules when they arrived, she’s pretty upset as she’s self employed. Their holiday was booked way before any notion of Covid appeared and she spent a long time worrying about going. She couldn’t afford to take the loss of her money by not going but she may well be wishing she had now.
People like your friend deserve no sympathy at all according to some of the contributiors to this thread 🙄
I know right? She has travel insurance but of course, when they left on their flight on Saturday the FCO advice was good and her travel agent hadn’t cancelled. How can people not have sympathy for people in her position?

I’ve spent a lot of time cancelling everything for my Australia trip in September but that has been easy as my some of my flights were cancelled and hotel bookings were cancellable for free.

I did say that those who booked before Corvid I do feel for which obviously includes your daughter. Of course she wouldn't have lost the money just not had the holiday.
I hope she can still enjoy her time away.
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Thanks, I’m probably generalising and I’m sure not everyone fails to have sympathy. She would have lost both the money & her holiday if she had decided on Friday night or Saturday morning that she wouldn’t go. I hope she does enjoy the remaining time on holiday, she deserves to.
  • I am unsure whether this is a sensible question, or a stupid one, but I will put it out there:  If a person returns from Portugal today, currently, they must self isolate for 14 days and obviously cannot return to work.  However, if an air bridge is agreed at any time during their lockdown, can that person return to work immediately or do the rules apply as on the day of return from travel and they still have to isolate for the full 14 days.  The traveller will want to return to work, but their colleagues will want the rules followed.

Yes, when they abandoned the original blanket quarantine they said everyone currently doing it could stop.

If the law allows you to return then you should do so.

I absolutely agree, but am having difficulty in finding what the law allows.  I assume that when they do switch off the need for quarantine, the answer will be covered - I just wanted to be head of the game.

And the answer is yes, it was "switched off" for 70 or so countries originally so no reason why the same wont apply again.
