I was going to say a responsible employer wouldn't want you to come to work if there is a very real risk that you could spread the virus, but even a selfish employer would think twice about the effects of the virus spreading amongst the workforce.
You have been around here for the last few months and seen threads about all kinds of stunts and policies employers have tried to pull/inact through this pandemic. I have no doubt at all some employers will issue the "come in or be sacked" line to people returning from Spain, and to think otherwise would be foolish.

Even some expert on the BBC News website has suggested this will happen.

    Just a general question.
If someone arrives back from Spain or wherever and has to go into 14 day quarantine - if they pay for a test and is proved negative after a few days, does that mean they will no longer have to self-isolate?

The law makes no concession for people going for a test. So the answer is no.

I doubt it - the 14 days is to allow for the incubation period, the test only shows if you actively have it when the test is taken not if you’re incubating it

  • My flight is today at 18.10 from Bristol - ryan air -due to new government restrictions I’ve been trying to change the  flight as not covered with insurance and  it’s not been cancelled - I ve checked in already so apparently cannot changed it unless unchecked by the reservation team . I  used my mobile Capp allowance  of £25 with  no reply- I am now on a online chat Since 12.10  and still  waiting for a reply- If I don’t change 2.5 hours before travelling appar I lose it - what are my rights - do I have any - why has ryan air put this change restriction in place - numbers are as low in alicant as in wales but as not covered by insurance I have no choice - why do ryan air always seem to put obstacles in your way when it comes to money 🤬 fuming

As for saying "screw them", well thats a a bit harsh. Lots of people will have had no choice but to go on holiday in the last few weeks because they couldnt afford to take the financial hit, holidays can be booked well over a year in advance you know.
There isnt actually a financial hit though is there - its already been paid for, they just aren't getting the end product (plus would save on spending money)

Oh, that makes it alright then 🙄

Thats like saying you just paid Ford £20k for a new car, you arent getting the car but its alright as you just arent getting the end product and hey, at least you dont have to insure and tax it now.

Maybe it's a pedantic point but to suggest people have no choice but to go on holiday to save them them from a financial hit is a nonsense. Whether they choose to go or not to go doesn't change their financial position in any way.

On a side note, just been in contact with a work colleague who was away in Fuerteventura but due back at work tomorrow. I was unsure when they were due back and wondered if they could be caught up in this.
Turns out their arrival time should have been twenty past midnight but, thanks to the flight crew, full throttle and a tailing wind arrived back a five to midnight so avoided the quarantine requirement. Lucky or what.

Pedantry yes but the vast majority of people in this country would not be prepared to throw thousands of pounds at a product or service and then have nothing to show for it. Or maybe thats just me.
