The figures in the UK are known to have been significantly under-reported overall, as there were many deaths in the community not recorded as coronavirus in the months before testing became widespread. Excess deaths have been touted as a better metric by Sage, and that measure shows there have been significantly more excess deaths in the UK than the official figures have attributed to coronavirus.JamoLew said:

The government being incompetent is not just an opinion. Having one of the highest excess death rates in Europe and indeed the developed world is a sad indictment of their ineptitude. However, in any society there will always be some who fall for spin, while others will for whatever reason absolve a government of their failings, regardless of the evidence or the severity of the consequences.
The number comes from death WITH not death FROM unlike a lot of other countries hence the Health Secretaries comments about a review needed on our reporting methods
There will always be inaccuracies in the data and discrepancies in the way different countries count them, however it would be somewhat fanciful to think that it will make a meaningful difference, and doesn't change the fact that many thousands are needlessly 6 foot under thanks to the government's ineptitude.-1 -
Those who'd booked holidays before Corvid I feel for. They must have been on tenterhooks hoping they'd get their holiday. Anyone though who booked more recently and especially in the last few weeks knew they were taking a chance. Unfortunately it hasn't paid off for them.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Certainly a far better collation of data than the Spanish authorities. With the Spanish media going as far as reporting of “incomprehensible figures” and that “thousands of casualties that suddenly disappeared from the series."tripled said:

FCO advice now includes the Spanish islands as of a few minutes ago, so at least that anomaly has been resolved0

Until people breathe in it that is. I can barely spend minutes in a shop with a mask on my face before I am hot, uncomfortable and a bit panicky, guess how many people are moving their masks away from their nose or mouth on that 2/3/4 hour flightGanga said:
He/She also said that the people on aircraft breath STALE, RE-CYCLED AIR ,untrue ! the air is brought in from one of the engines and passed thru a filtration system that makes it 100% safe.bradders1983 said:Who says I wont be?
Must be thousands of UK tourists having a holiday in Galicia then, who knew? 🙄
Oh and I wasnt the one making claims about how air travel has caused the localised spiked in Spain so i will leave it for MalMonroe to prove his assertion."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "1 -
And if they do they get the lovely HEPA filtered air to breathe in. Certainly not stale, recurculated air that MalMonroe claims, then again he or she has made many inaccurate claims on this forum in the last 48 hours and never returns to correct him or herself.sammyjammy said:

Did all these people not take out travel insurance when they booked their holidays?bradders1983 said:
As already mentioned, people have had holidays booked for months, long before all of this. Do it yourself trips that would have been a nightmare to pick apart. People who would have lost thousands had they not gone abroad in the last few weeks. Are these people also irresponsible in your book?JamoLew said:
well they didn't care enough that they couldn't possibly do without their 2 week sin the sun, so i doubt they actually care about the health of people they do/don't knowsilvercar said:
Why would anyone pretend to comply and not actually do it? Would you want to be the one that infects work colleagues who then go on to infect their elderly relatives? Would you want to be responsible for someone's death/ long term illness?"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -
You mean insurers who do allsorts to wiggle out of paying out?sammyjammy said:

My dd & her friends flew to one of the Canary Islands on Saturday afternoon to read the change to quarantine rules when they arrived, she’s pretty upset as she’s self employed. Their holiday was booked way before any notion of Covid appeared and she spent a long time worrying about going. She couldn’t afford to take the loss of her money by not going but she may well be wishing she had now.Torry_Quine said:Those who'd booked holidays before Corvid I feel for.
