Spain added back to 14 day UK "quarantine" list

What is incompetent, and surely nobody can argue with this, is one Government department saying it is fine to go to the Spanish islands, but another Government department saying they still have to quarantine on return from them.
It cant be tricky for border officials to differentiate based on the origin airport, utter farce.1 -
We rebooked our easyjet flights last night for next year. I have been charged the fare difference for each passenger and the change fee of £32 each as it is within 14 days of the flight. I have an inkling that I read somewhere that they were waiving the change fees due to the change being so sudden? Does anyone know if this is true and have they overcharged me? Impossible to get through to them. ThanksIn deep...0

People spent thousands to go to Spain! There's me thinking it was cheaper than a holiday here.1

I don't blame the government for "everything", and nowhere did I say that. Indeed I commented that they appear to becoming more proactive, which is a good thing. I do however think their management of the pandemic has been lethargic, incompetent and shambolic, particularly in the earlier stages. They were unprepared, have often been slow to react to advice from Sage, and displayed rank hypocrisy which has further undermined messaging that was often muddled to start with. The government are also reluctant to admit failings, instead shirking responsibility and blaming others, which gives little confidence that they have learned from mistakes.Ganga said:
I do not think you can blame the government for everything ,every country in the world has been hit with this pandemic ,even the countries that shut down straight away have had loads of deaths ,its tragic but these things happen ,thank god not very often.tripled said:The government's incompetent handling of the pandemic has been disastrous so far, leading to tens of thousands of unnecessary excess deaths. Although still a little shambolic, it appears they are finally trying to get onto the front foot and be proactive, with the new measures on face coverings, keeping nightclubs closed, and now removing Spain from the safe countries as it shows signs of a potential surge in coronavirus cases. It is unfortunate for those whose holiday plans are affected and I have every sympathy for them, however I think this is the right decision to help protect our nation's health and wider economy.
When the quarantine requirements were lifted, it was made clear that, should it be necessary, they could be reimposed at any time. It is particularly unfortunate for those who booked some time ago, didn't have the option to cancel and are now in a difficult position of needing to self-isolate, however those who have booked in the last few weeks did so knowing the world is still in the middle of a pandemic and this could happen.
The other thing is whatever they do they are called incompetent if they do something quickly or if they wait and see.
The government being incompetent is not just an opinion. Having one of the highest excess death rates in Europe and indeed the developed world is a sad indictment of their ineptitude. However, in any society there will always be some who fall for spin, while others will for whatever reason absolve a government of their failings, regardless of the evidence or the severity of the consequences.

On a side note, easyJet cancelled our Majorca holiday on the 14th Aug yet TUI and Jet2 are still flying there, looks like we picked the wrong horse

That WHAT has happened? Deaths??? You don't look at or read any news? People are dying. Leicester is a prime example! And my own city too has had to step backwards rather than forwards to a lockdown ease. Don't talk silly.bradders1983 said:
Do you have any evidence this has happened on a widespread scale?MalMonroe said:What about sitting on planes, never mind about when you reach your destination. It's really very simple.
If you travel anywhere abroad at this time you run the risk of disruption.
The government received their data on Spain on Friday and reacted as quickly as they could.
So please, if your holiday in Spain is disrupted, stop snivelling and trying to blame someone else for the risk you were happy to take until it didn't pay off.2 -

A lot of insurers say that if you took an annual policy out before Coronavirus began, and you made a booking while FCO advice allowed travel (eg you booked for Spain before today), you can now claim for cancellation due to this change. No, you had to take out the insurance AND book the trip before COVID19 became an issue. If an FCO warning is in place for your destination at the time you're due to travel, you're likely to be able to claim on insurance if your policy covers coronavirus cancellation – this will usually be the case if you took out the insurance and booked the trip before mid-March, though this is not the case for all policies so check.Sadly, if you have no insurance, or you either booked the holiday or bought insurance after mid-March, you're unlikely to get anything back. The poster that I was responding to booked the holiday 3 weeks ago.

Some (a lot) of which can be attributed to the way we are reporting deaths.tripled said:

The number comes from death WITH not death FROM unlike a lot of other countries hence the Health Secretaries comments about a review needed on our reporting methods1
