Finally had my valuation text on working day 16. Booked in for this Wednesday (19/8) so crossing my fingers it's wrapping up soon. Here's my latest timeline
    • Mid-June - AIP from broker (Habito)
    • 6th July - Viewing
    • 6th July - 1st offer submitted
    • 21st July - Agreed 3rd counter-offer with seller
    • 22nd July - Solicitor appointed & finished full application through Habito
    • 26th July - Nationwide confirm they've received it by text. Soft search reported through Transunion (Credit Karma & MoneySupermarket app)
    • 30th July - Email from broker saying that I'm in a queue because of the big surge post-lockdown, so things are going a bit slower
    • 14th August - Underwriter questions why I'm buying a house 200 miles from my office. Explained to MB I work remotely.
    • 17th August - Valuation booked for 19th

Buy My First House During A Pandemic Challenge
    26/7 Nationwide 90% LTV Application Received | 26/7 Soft Credit Search | 4/8 Hard Search | 14/8 Underwriter questions | 17/8 Valuation booked | 19/8 Physical valuation & report received | 7/9 Mortgage offer | 27/11 Exchange & Completion
  • Help! I’m frustrated beyond belief!
    Offer accepted on house 31/06
Mortgage application went in to Nationwide 14/07 (previously went to Barclays but fell through)
Valuation booked and provided same day 17/07
Questions from nationwide re paying loan off - provided answer same day as well as proof 20/07
10/08 - application escalated by BDM via MA
14/08 - only waiting for valuation to be ticked off now (Despite being told by nationwide directly on 31/07 that it was okay)
17/08 - still waiting mortgage offer

will the waiting ever end :(
  • @hughes1497 we're the same with NW. Their timescales are awful. Last lot of questions answered 3/8 and tax documents provided at the same time with last lot being uploaded on 11/8 (had to wait to receive from HMRC). Valuation text received on 6/8 and since then nothing... I don't even know where in the application process we are - it's the lack of no updates that's awful

    Valuation: 6/8
    NW offer: 20/8

Do nationwide do their checks before or after valuation? Or does it depend really on who does it.

  • @xMeganCL it seems to be different for all. Some have all checks straight away then Valuation seems to be the last thing, some are the other way around. When we applied they did soft searches on DIP and requested documents during a 2 week period. They booked valuation within a few days of application but the nearest date was 3 weeks away. So I assume they did the underwriting whilst waiting for the valuation. We've still not had any hard searches done. There's no straight pattern to how they work im afraid. Although Scotland buyers seem to have easier valuation process because of the home reports being used.

I thought that really. I'm in Scotland and my advisor said they're just using the home report. Had my text today to say valuation reviewed and accepted, but they haven't hard credit checked me yet as far as I can see, so I'm assuming they've not actually reviewed my paperwork yet.

  • @xMeganCL I wouldn't assume much with NW. Another poster a few weeks back went through full application and got mortgage offer without even having hard credit check. It literally is just a waiting game without having any indication of timescales. I'm trying to tell myself not to stress and focus on work and other things but very difficult as I'm constantly checking email and then convincing myself it's bad news and then the next day I feel quite positive. Hang in there x
