Anyone self employed and been requested to fill in a form about how Covid has affected the business (apparently you have to do this for Natwest)? Presumably this would be sent at UW stage.
We did this at application stage. Our MB asked loads of questions and he drafted a statement about it for santander.
    Ah OK.
Santander apparently have a 2 stage UW process. First to check they have all the docs they need then goes back to them to check over and make decisions. Seems odd that they would then start top request lots of new things at the 2nd stage if they'd already confirmed they had everything they wanted..
I haven't heard anything btw, this is all just wondering and reading other people's experiences.

That makes sense given mine and other people’s experiences. Seems UW1 gets it through to valuation the UW2 goes into more detail. I’ve still not heard anything although the timescales are up to 22/9 which is when we put our replies in to them. Keeping fingers & toes crossed x
Just find it so odd with the different timescales for different people. Our apps went in the same time and we've heard nothing as yet... hoping for news this week!
Fingers crossed yours will be soon!!
Yes it’s very odd. Your valuation was a week later which could have been down to the surveyors. Either way yours should be looked at early this week given their timescales. Hopefully not too many questions!! X
Yes I think the surveys are just down to availability in your area at the time as ours was booked ages ago but 23/09 was the earliest they could do. We're in the South East.
Hope you're right and things start moving this week.

Not self employed but just before we put our application in (literally same day and we had everything ready to submit) our mortgage advisor said that Santander wanted a declaration from us on whether our job and incomes have been affected by COVID and reasons why/why not

When did your application go in?

  • The underwriting delay with Santander are off the scale at the moment. According to their service level update on the website, they are STILL looking at applications sent to underwriters on 4th September - today is the fourth day they’ve been looking at that date. Mine went in on 5th!!! Hopefully no more questions for me as I’m told it’s just awaiting finals checks.
I think that at this stage, all the credit check and affordability is done and it’s just a case of double checking and marrying the application with the valuation (which was done on 28th August!!!).
I am going out of my mind with all this!!  I know that every single case is different, and it’s useless trying to draw comparisons, but I personally get comfort from hearing that I’m not the only one going through this!
  • Been following this thread since application. The waiting is really a torture...
    Our timeline:
    Mortgage application (via broker) 29/08
    Desktop valuation completed on 04/09
Submitted docs on proof of deposit 08/09
    Query on OH payslip 16/09
    Submitted Aug/Sep payslips 22/09
    Application gone to UW 24/09

Waiting for further updates or queries  :#
We are both employed, not affected by Covid, no loans.
  • Update from my broker is that they are dealing with applications from 7th (ours went in 10th). Is Santander particularly bad or is this the same with most lenders at the moment? Seems quite extreme.

According to their website they’re looking at 4th not 7th!!! Mine went in on 5th and I’ve heard nothing.

  • Ugh, another week wait then for me.
getting really over this! Wish we’d gone with someone else!
  • I’m tempted to submit with Halifax, they seem to be much faster.
