  • Also noted in the Your new tariff section, they have mentioned "Your standing charge began when you were appointed as our customer, on 21st November, so we will therefore retrospectively add a standing charge from the date you were appointed to us by Ofgem.

So how/who/what rate the energy used from the 21st November to 3rd December is going to be billed, remains to be seen!

That's an interesting development as it implies they will end up charging for the "missing period" at some point (even if only the standing charge part) - the section in full with more context is :

We would also like to let you know about the standing charge that will be applied to your first bill. A standing charge is a fixed daily amount that you have to pay your electricity or gas. Your standing charge began when you were appointed as our customer, on 21st November, so we will therefore retrospectively add a standing charge from the date you were appointed to us by Ofgem. You will see this charge appear on your first bill.

HOWEVER since I have already had the first bills on all 3 accounts I manage then they will only be able to retrospectively add any charge for the "missing period" AFTER the first bill in my case & probably a lot of other customers too

And some of us have had second bills and no retrospective charge......
  • no retrospective charges on of our first 2 bills either.

sorry if already asked, but i've just checked our account & our tariff appears to have recently changed -
welcome to BG, variable monthly DD, south west region
    first 2 bills charged at 0.2161p/kw & 0.2567p/s.chg,
now shows same tariff name but the rates are showing as 0.28408p/kw & 0.51626p/s.chg,
same tariff end date as originally stated of 31.07.22 (i know this means nothing).

is this the new price cap rate wef 01.04.22?

Yes it is.   Been lots of complaints about how BG changed the tariff info without stating it was only effective from 1 April.

Plus they are claiming the Price Guaranteed Until 31 July 2022, which has now been removed sneakily, was a typo despite it being on there for 2 months+ before they 'noticed' it....

The rate and the billing for that period can only come from BG as NR did not have a supply licence from the 21st, so either it gets billed by BG at their rates, or it doesn't get billed at all.

The bit I've highlighted in bold is rather a statement of the obvious BUT as you aren't privy to whatever has been agreed between NR Administrators and BG you can't say what rates we may be billed. Don't forget BG were also making statements that NR customers became their customers on the 3rd of December (badly phrased), but that is more likely to be related to when BG was recorded on National Databases as the supplier. As I said, it remains to be seen.

Just had my outstanding NR balance credited in full to my non-SOLR British Gas account with a transaction type of "Miscellaneous document". My one and only NR bill went up to 7th November so not sure what's going to happen to the charges between 8th November and 6th December but I'm going to let sleeping dogs lie.
Stepdaughter has had her NR credit applied to her SOLR BG account today as well, but nothing on mine for the NR debit that I owe.   Likewise no further bills on either account for the gap period between end of NR (or 8th Nov in her case) and start date of first bills from BG.  Fingers crossed they aren't going to bother.
yes they have added NR final bill credit balances but not deducted NR final bill debit balances

I strongly suspect they will get round to deducting final bill debit balances in the near future

Whether they get round to charging for the the "missing period" though is unlikely in my opinion as its hard to see how they would do it now the NR billing system has been shut down
Hmm, I'm wondering if the bit I've highlighted in bold is the case as I've had a credit added in the last 24hrs with the transaction type of "Miscellaneous document" but it's somewhat larger than I would have expected. As NR's billing system INTERNALLY is NOT shut down, I would expect the debits to be added soon. I haven't yet had the "PDFformat" final bill NR said I would get. The way NR/BG seem to have agreed to deal with the credits & debts may have a bearing on this.
Are you sure that you didn't have a DD payment taken by NR after the date that your last NR bill went up to and hence actually had a final credit balance on 20 Nov bigger than that stated on your 'final' bill?

This was the case for my stepdaughter.  Her final bill produced on 6 Nov but up to 1 Nov showed a credit balance that hadn't taken account of the DD that had been taken on 1 Nov so was showing a credit balance that was £20 less than her actual credit balance (and it was this higher credit balance that has now appeared in her BG account).
I have full copies of the last bills I had from NR and copies of the account showing the last DD taken. I know how much energy I've used. As I said, the credit is for somewhat more that I would have expected! And as yet I haven't had the pdf final bill from NR.

But it's not just the "guaranteed" part, it's more related to the "Contract" they sent in November, as has been previously mentioned by others.

I’ve had no retrospective charges on my first two BG bills either for the SC from 21 Nov. I initiated my switch to BG shortly after NR went bust but before BG was appointed as SOLR so theoretically should still have been on BG welcome tariff from 21 Nov up until 7 Dec when switch completed and I moved to Zero Fixed Oct 2022. So far my bills from BG just use the start date of 7 Dec.

There is no agreement to be made between NR Administrators and BG in relation to the period from the 21st onwards, everything from that date is in the hands of BG and the the rates come from the tariff approved by Ofgem when they appointed BG as SoLR.

And still BG's glacial progress drags on  - NR debits not appeared, no meter readings sought, and yet the website is back to asking for an increase in DD with no explanation for the increase other than a figure for expected "end of contract" balance, calculated how ???
