OK, it seems the best option is to try and get the 'British Gas Exclusive fix nov 23'.  However, on their website it states "We’ll contact you by letter or email before mid-March to let you know what this means for you".(presumably 'you' is existing customers).  I'm on a Standard Variable Tariff (start late Nov 21 - moved over from NR) valid til July 31st 2022.

So, could the news mid-March be positive for people in my situation or should I shoot for 'Exclusive fix nov 23' and try to get in before Apr 1st?  Thanks.

There will be no positive news. You cannot switch to these old tariffs on the website, the only way anyone has ever done it is via the chat (both zero fixed and exclusive fixed). I'm not suggesting you read the 200+ pages of this thread, but basically you just need to keep trying the chat over and over again until you find a chat agent that agrees you can be switched, and grab screenshots of the chat when that happens.

The last statement I got from them is now called my final statement. It's estimated but in my favour. No idea about the final three weeks I was with them before I transferred to the black hole of PFP. I haven't paid anyone for electricity since may!
Don't chase them, if they haven't billed you within 12 months it's then too late and they cannot charge you.

I just got a letter from E.ON with a cheque for my Symbio credit (which is wrong, complaint already gone in) and it actually says that because I was on supply with E.ON for such a short time, they won't bother charging me. Symbio used my opening Neon Reef meter reading for my final bill, hence no saving on actual kWh but I still got the standing charge for the period from 3rd to 5th October for free so around 60 pence or so.

I suspect that switching myself rather than waiting for the SOLR account to be set-up has messed up the transfer from NR to BG, as my BG account shows me officially on supply from 6th December for one property and 10th December for the other, while anyone who went through the SOLR process would have been updated on the national database around December 2nd/3rd.

I suspect the number of customers who escape the SOLR process is so low, and the amount of hassle for their IT to retrospectively change the supply start date to 21 November is so great, that they probably won't even bother.

Anyone else with altered meter read amounts & estimates rather than customer reads showing now than when they first went under?
Nope; my final NR statement hasn't changed since first issued 14th December. They used an estimated final reading for 20th November ,but it was only 2 kwh different to actual ,so not worth bothering about.

Regarding Symbio/eon next who did you complain to please?
my closing reading with Symbio was incorrect (they’ve admitted that) but say they cannot now change bills as they are in administration.

Answer here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5960285/symbio-energy-feedback/p401 as this is a NR thread.
  • So if it is no longer accessible from the 11th, then does that mean the credit will be transferred by then?

    I wouldn't bet on that.

Got the email also, now managed to log in but still no final bill showing for me.

Last billed on the 26 Oct 2021.
Same for me, last bill 2nd November.

I was a couple of hundred in credit with NR so I'm keen to get that transferred.
Sounds like this is affecting a lot of us (my 'final' bill is to 29 October, I had a subsequent DD that is not accounted for as well as any usage and, like you, will end up somewhat more than £200 in credit), so it is something the administrators ought to sort out sooner than later. Coincidentally, I contacted them about this on Thursday (before getting the email about the site closing down), so hopefully will get a reply before the site disappears.

I have not read back through all the messages, so might have misunderstood, but do be aware that the back-billing rules do not apply to failed suppliers, so to the extent that any of the so far unbilled use was with a failed supplier, the administrators can bill for it if they eventually notice.
The back-billing rules are part of the supply licence and the failed supplier lose that when they go into administration so it has no effect on them any more.

I wrote to Neon Reef early Jan regarding the "final bill" issued on the 4/11/21 as it was missing 2 direct debits and I was looking for clarification that those payments would be transferred to British gas. They replied stating a final closing statement has not been issued. (see reply below)
I also received the email last week yet nothing in my account has been updated since "final bill" on the 4/11/21 and no notification of a closing statement

Dear Sir/Madam, I would like to query the final bill statement issued on the 4/11/21 which states my final bill was for £xxx and states a credit of £xxx will be transferred to British gas as the SOLR.

I have had 3 direct debits deducted from my bank account @ £xxxx per month (see below)

Final bill issued by neon on 4/11/21...£xxxx

    credit amount outstanding ........£xxxx

Can you please confirm that the amount owed is £xxxx and that this amount will be credited to my British Gas account and not the £xxxx which is stated on the final statement.

Good Afternoon, Thank you for contacting us. I can confirm we received your payments (thank you).  Please see confirmation below: I can also confirm your electricity supply transferred to British Gas. Your closing statement has not been released. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide timescales of when your closing statement will be released as closing statements are being released in batches. However, we will notify you once your closing statement has been released. Please Note:  Any credit / debit on your closing statement will be transferred to British Gas. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
    Many thanks,

    Warmest Regards

    Dave
