  • I'm sure BG will just argue that the SOLR tariffs weren't actual fixed tariffs though, with just an end date stated on info sent out. I doubt that we'll get anywhere by complaining when our charges all increase in April...

Just keep trying over and over. Depending on you use it could save you more than £1,000 and what we've learnt is that persistence pays off. If It'd given up after a couple of tries I'd be on the SVT.

I couldn’t get the zero fix but I got an exclusive fix.
i don’t know whether that’s just random or whether some are easier than others

As it affects so many people ( several 100,000 customers ) I reckon a formal complaint will be in order from whenever they actually tell us of the increase or April 1st if no notification. Doesn't cost a customer anything other than time whereas a complaint which ends up at OFGEM via the Ombudsman would cost BG !!

The OfGem press release at https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/price-cap-increase-ps693-april says this about the price cap:

It will affect default tariff customers who haven’t switched to a fixed deal and those who remain with their new supplier after their previous supplier exited the market.

OK, it seems the best option is to try and get the 'British Gas Exclusive fix nov 23'.  However, on their website it states "We’ll contact you by letter or email before mid-March to let you know what this means for you".(presumably 'you' is existing customers).  I'm on a Standard Variable Tariff (start late Nov 21 - moved over from NR) valid til July 31st 2022.

So, could the news mid-March be positive for people in my situation or should I shoot for 'Exclusive fix nov 23' and try to get in before Apr 1st?  Thanks.

I think it’s an excellent deal and if you can get it then you’ve won the lottery.

im not sure what you are referring to by people in your situation but there is no good news. The price cap is up 54%. What exactly are you hoping for?

I was hoping I might be kept on the tariff I was put on for 12 months rather than 6 but doesn't appear that way.
