Just switch to Variable Direct Debit.hawkwind said:I was changing my payment from quarterly to direct debit but they are setting my price at £89 a month for 10 months.
When checking my current tariff for quarterly cash payment they have set up they estimate 2900 kWh estimated usage at an annual cost of £673 which works out at £56 a month, a huge difference.0 -

watch out if you try to set up a DD with British Gas - tried today, suggested my first payment would be £1754 ! I'm guessing it's because their system hasn't loaded an opening read yet, despite it showing an estimate from early Dec, but you'd think one of the biggest, longest established suppliers would have a better system than that ? One that has a mechanism built in to realise anything over say £150/mnth is probably a system error, and hence stops bills being sent out or shown on website ? 3 -
Maybe they know more about the April price increases than has been made public? 🤣🤣dillydilly1 said:

Have you given them any readings? Their initial suggestion for my account was based on the 2900kWh but since I gave them an additional reading it recalculated & since looks to be in the right ball park for me (my normal annual usage is ~1150kWh).hawkwind said:

(dillydilly1 your estimate is a cracker, I wonder where they got the info from as per hawkwind's post my initial estimated payment was based on 2900kWh? Could you have given them an incorrect reading? p.s. mine is using a 10 month plan as is hawkwind's too yet yours is 12 month - something is not right somewhere)0 -

BG's "system" is useless - I put in a meter read on 6th Dec as requested - BG calculated a DD of £73 pm , low by my calculations, which indicated ~ £97 pm, but set up for 4th Jan.
With no further input from me it then decided I needed to pay £116 pm !!! I've manually reduced to a more reasonable £100pm which initially it accepted, but now ,when I log in, the system is nagging for an increase or a one off payment!
A bit of explanation by BG would help !!1 -
with all these direct debit issues people are facing I think I am now glad I've left my payment methods as cash/cheque
I will change over to DD only when they tell me the tariff is going to start costing more
And even then i will be using variable DD so no issue with setting up the "correct" monthly amount2
