"Interesting" to see BG's "cheapest tariffs" for electricity now that my meter reading has been confirmed:

36.187p unit charge/44.277p standing charge with an exit fee of £75.

Guaranteed to make next April's 40% increase look reasonable.

I also note, in starting to set up a DD, that they want it to be 10 payments and estimate my usage at almost triple what I know it will be.  No wonder they're the nation's favourite energy supplier.

As there don't seem to be any discounts for DD payment, why would anyone be inclined to front up the money, apart from knowing you don't have to shell out triple the monthly amount in 3 months time?
  • @jrio Apparently there is an option for variable DDs, if you can get to 'speak' to someone at BG. See earlier posts from @Shedman. I haven't bothered because, as you say, there is no price differential, only convenience.

My BG account is going backwards - it now says "nearly time for a meter reading" !!
  • On the plus side, it looks like BG is not intending billing me until mid January 2022…

I don’t expect anyone to rely on this but I’d appreciate checking

Thank you for your enquiry. You can make additional payments by BACS transfer (bank transfer):

    Barclays Bank UK PLC

    Neon Reef Ltd

    Sort code: 20 – 11 – 39

    Account Number: 13708985

Payment reference – (Your Neon Reference number beginning with NR)

I tried to make a manual payment after checking the details were correct for. NR. However payment has just been returned again. I did try this this a few weeks ago and the same thing happened.
Checked my account late last night and the payment was resubmitted automatically and has now been accepted.

Maybe I'm getting confused - but are you saying that you have settled with NR before you have got an accepted opening read with BG ? My NR statement still has "estimated read" on the "final statement.

Received the following BG email after setting up a fixed DD via my account on BG website

Thank you for setting up a Direct Debit for your electricity use.

From now on, we’ll send you a statement twice a year – and collect £73.48 on the 1st of each month.

So do they only check usage vs payment twice a year?

Not received final bill from NR but was paying £75 DD and estimate account will be £120 in credit.

I received an e-mail this morning with "details of my payment plan". It says they will bill me every three months and collect the amount at least 10 working days after that. That sounds susiciously like quarterly direct debit, although I asked for monthly.
When I log in, my account just shows "monthly direct debit". Does that mean variable?
  • NR account now has an estimated reading showing for 28th November, was previously the actual read I'd entered for 22nd November. Still no final bill yet though & currently billed to 28th October (but that bill revised recently to say Final Bill, even though it isn’t).

BG - I went on chat a few days ago & have set up monthly variable DD, confirmed by 2 emails, but only states DD, not type, on account. No meter read showing yet & transfer progress status has gone back to showing going live 3rd December, it had gone past this stage previously but I forgot to screenshot it unfortunately. No idea when we're due a bill or read required as yet.
