Just helped a family member get the British Gas deal (We should both get an Amazon Gift Card referral too).

It was a nightmare on Live Chat, but make sure you click on the 'Envelope' icon at the bottom of the chat window to make sure you receive an email of the chat transcript afterwards for proof.
The transcript thing doesn't work. It's better to use the Print option and print the transcript to a PDF.
I've done a few yesterday/today and it has worked - Takes about 10 minutes to come through though.  As you say though, best to save off a PDF copy incase the transcript doesn't come through.  Last thing you need is to have to go through it all again.
  • Can I ask about the BG tariff, I tried last night and was told it is not possible as it was for military personnel only, have you been offered this tariff today?

Yes after about 4 or 5 chat sessions.  If at first you don't succeed, disconnect and try again.  It doesn't help that it takes ages to get connected.

I think I got there finally. Agent is going to make manual request to switch my electricity to BG and then apply this BG Zero Oct 2022 tariff. I took a copy of chat conversation, but it also came by email after chat ended.

"we can change the tariff only once the account is created as the advisor took request it will take 2-3 working days to take over the supply. And once we did the tariff will change to Zero Fixed Oct 2022 as the advisor took the request"

    "
Then rest assured your tariff will change to electric to Zero Fixed Oct 2022"

They wanted to move my gas to it as well, but it's more expensive than the SOLR I have from PfP. What a mess.

I will probably have to waste another couple of hours in couple of days.
  • Ok I've switched to BG on variable tariff and asked 3 times "when my switch completes on December 9th on variable tariff I can switch the next day to the Zero fixed October 2022 tariff"

Three times I was told yes I can change either via my account or live chat.....so we will see what happens, I've also got screen shot/pdf copy/transcript

You get the impression and I hope I'm wrong but will take the gamble.......that BG will be inundated with complaints for switches not being honoured in a few weeks

If it all goes to plans its a no brainer....price fixed till Oct 22 and no exit fee

I also did the envelope for the chat transcript email but it never arrived and nor did the email confirming the switch request which agent said I would receive shortly. I did however take screenshots of relative parts of chat confirming the zero fixed tariff promised etc so should be ok!

I vaguely remember a similar circumstance with EON about 5 years or so ago, when they were bringing out new tariffs almost on a daily basis ,with various switching sites. I switched between these to save money every time but some people who thought they had been switched to cheaper deal ,weren't !  EON admitted that they were at fault but I think they refused to back date switches.

No doubt if it is a big c0ck up it will be noted in the next few days with the increased applications etc and still have 14 days to cancel
