For anyone who wants to try their luck, the British Gas Zero Fixed Oct 22 electricity tariff would be unbeatable IF you can switch to it.  You can even pay with Variable Direct Debit which eliminates all the problems associated with excess credit building up and the confusion about 'All You Can Eat'.
I managed to escape Symbio's SoLR and I've been told in Chats and emails that my tariff (currently the SVT) will be backdated to the start of service.  Chat seems to be the only way to get it and you'll have to be very persistent and keep the transcript (take photos because transcripts don't always materialise), but if you like a challenge it might be worth a go.
I had good luck with my first Live Chat. I printed the transcript to PDF and the advisor assured me I'd be able to transfer to that tariff after first signing up to the SVT.

Did you choose to join the standard British Gas brand or British Gas Evolve?

EDIT: Seems like I can't join the SVT directly but I can go for an Evolve zero-exit-fee fixed tariff. Is that what you did?

I would be very surprised if you can move to a BG tariff when it sounds like you joined / are joining BG Evolve - from what ive read they use completely different back end software so the BG tariff is probably does not even exist on BG evolves system
Haven't signed up for anything yet. If I go via the BG brand the only tariff available is one with a £75 exit fee. Might still be worth it lol. I need to get back on the Live Chat and see what the options are. Would have been ideal if I was able to nip the issue in the bud with the original advisor.
It's basically Zero Fixed Oct 22 or bust.  If you're fobbed off with BG Evolve or any other tariff it's like to be more expensive than ending up on the SoLR's SVT, so think carefully and do the sums.  You'll have to be very persistent, but the prize makes it worthwhile.
What I meant was they told me to sign up to the SVT, and then once I'm on supply I need to tell them to transfer me to Zero Fixed Oct 22. But there is no option to sign up to SVT directly.
Just done that, I took a screenshot of the chat and got an emailed transcript just to be safe.
Just done what, exactly? Were you told to do the same as me, or do something else?
Was told to switch to the only tariff that comes up on the website, contact them once the switch had gone through and they'd move me to the Zero Fixed Oct 22 tariff, backdated to the inception date.
Gotcha. Did they say anything about paying the £75 exit fee for that initial tariff?

https://www.britishgas.co.uk/help-and-support/my-account/understanding-energy-tariffs it’s quick and easy to change tariffs online if you’re already with us. Simply access your account online, go to ‘tariff switch’ and pick your new tariff. It’ll take us 24 hours to switch you over and you won’t have to pay any exit fees.
The problem may be that you won't be shown the Zero Fixed Oct 22 tariff.  It seems that it's only available by Chat and only if you are very persistent.
As an existing customer, can you see an option to switch to SVT through the online portal? Just thinking of the worst case scenario.
Keep up, @Gerry1 is already on the SVT, and any attempt to transfer tariffs results in 'there is a problem'

But to answer your question, anyone with BG on a different tariff cannot transfer to their SVT via the online portal. Existing BG customers can only currently move to the SVT by doing nothing when their fixed term tariff ends.

SVT's cost a supplier money at the moment due to the Ofgem imposed price cap.
Yet this Zero Fixed Oct 22 tariff that everyone seems to be being promised on chat is priced significantly less than the SVT.

Anyone know of any other suppliers that offer tariffs at significantly less than the Ofgem price cap recently.

    Symbio? Neon Reef?

    Whatever happened to them?

According to the only place on BG website you can see details of the Zero Fixed Oct 22 tariff, it clearly says:

  • I would save £45 a year by switching to that tariff but am getting an electric car next month so my usage will change, and this tariff for my region has a higher kWh than the svr. Hmm.
  • I got an e-mail at 15:36 today from Neon Reef telling me that they've finally succumbed and that an SoLR will be appointed in dues course, so I'm gonna have to wait for my £23 credit from the middle of July.
I've not received an email from NR, anybody else the same?

I’ve not received anything either. Fingers crossed I get in front of the SOLR and onto the cheaper BG tariff. I managed to avoid the deemed tariff when PFP failed through a switch to NR prior to receiving that email notification. It’s a bit like a tiresome game of frogger to avoid the bigger bills.

    Nope, nothing here either.

IF I could get on this Zero fixed Oct 22 , it would save me ~ £15 vs potential capped price by April then more by October (dependent on the new cap in April) but I've decided that the savings aren't worth the risk of a) BG NOT switching me to this tariff from whatever fix they sign me up to, and b) the heartache of being a BG customer again !!

Just thinking about possible SOLR.  Is there any reason (except having some business sense - loss making customers) why OVO/SSE and Scottish Power haven't been SOLRs for any of the companies to go under so far this year?  So far, EDF, BG, Shell and Octopus have all taken on over 500,000 customers each, and E.ON Next, just under 250,000.

Where? I'm still seeing the same message on the website.

  • Yes, I was due a refund from July when I left.  They stopped replying to me and they did not reply to the Ombudsman.  Then the day they stop trading they finally decided to reply....

    "Good morning,

Thank you for your email. It is with deep sadness that we have ceased trading, but please feel assured your credit will be secure under OFGEM’s safety net.  Any credit will be transferred to the new appointed supplier no credit will be lost.

OFGEM are working to have a Supplier of Last Resort appointed and as soon as a new supplier has been appointed you will be updated.  We would recommend not cancelling any Direct Debits, and If you are able to, take a meter reading and update this via your online account"

I have zero sympathy for them and I feel they have been downright dishonest to their customers.
