So just to confirm I'm asking to sign up to "BG Zero Fixed October 22 tariff" for electric and if extremely lucky will get signed up for it but more likely have to keep on trying
    Yep that’s the tariff

Oh well number 15 in queue
Did you go via the Cosmo virtual assistant chat button? Have tried again but still says no one available.
    Yes...In queue now......down to number 6
  • The way British Gas are talking, I very much doubt you need to actually chat to anyone before taking the plunge. Nonetheless, it's good to have some kind of written proof.

    1. To chat, go to the "Help & Support" section of their website, and click on the "Chat" button on the bottom-right.
    2. Say "Joining" when the bot asks what you need help with.
    3. When asked if you are the account holder, say "No". You will then be put through to a human.
    4. Tell them what you want. At this point, most of us are being told you will have to sign up to whatever tariff you can find on the BG website, then ask them to switch you over to the Zero Fixed Oct 22 tariff once you are on supply.
    5. Use this link to sign up if you want to avoid being re-directed to the British Gas Evolve website: https://www.britishgas.co.uk/GetAQuote/new/quote-details?cid=bgEvolve_redirectBAU

Has anyone been able to switch to the Zero Fixed October 2022 tariff is they are not already with British Gas or currently being switched to them via a SoLR?
  • ok got through and been told

Your chat is currently connected to the Credit Energy Billing Team, with limited information about this. However, we do have a specialist HOME MOVE team who will get this sorted out for you on immediate basis. Is it okay if I can transfer the chat to them. The wait time is approx. 12-15 mins max. You need not repeat yourself

What's notable to me is that so far , not all the SoLRs allocated to abandoned customers are necessarily the original "Big six".
Presumably Ofgem knows enough about them to be confident they can take on more - otherwise a SoLR
that also goes under might be an embarrassment (though not impossible) though I understand there are provisions for this.

The term Big Six is redundant now.
SSE fobbed all its retail customers off to OVO.
Then you have Npower's retail customers being swallowed up by E.ON Next.

Last year, Ofgem re-classified suppliers into Small, Medium and Large.
In October 2020, Britain’s largest supplier was British Gas with 18pc of the market, followed by EDF & Npower (18pc), Ovo (15pc), E.ON (12pc), Scottish Power (9pc), Bulb (5.7pc), Octopus (5.1pc).

Yet even Bulb is not to be trusted to be a SOLR...

    Thank you so much
Isn’t this a risk - that it’s not available when you want to switch and you’re then on something more expensive?
apologies if I’m miss8ng something - I may well be
