Just got off the chat with BG, all sorted on the chat, set up the account as Zero Fixed Oct 2022 there and then, the agent took a while to do stuff in the background, but confirmed that I will be on that tariff in 14 days, no having to go back and switch from SVR, let's see...
That was very lucky.  When I signed up they said this couldn't be done and I had to signup to a random tariff, only to be swapped over when it went live.  If you have signed up straight onto the correct one that is a lot better and less messing about.
Yes that's what I've been told so far. The only tariff I can sign up to online is a very expensive fixed one. I don't want to risk that and then discover my preferred tariff isn't available when the switch eventually goes live.
If you keep a screenshot of the chat, and you sign up for the fixed tariff, they have to allow you to switch to the cheaper tariff once your switch has gone through.  If that's what they promised, they are legally bound by that promise.

Just cancelled the switch to Bristol Energy, so hopefully the transition from Neon Reef to British gas should go smoothly.

Just something to watch for, when you cancel one switch and immediately start another, the most recent switch can fail if the first switch has not had time to be fully cancelled.
Just keep an eye on the progress emails from BG, just in case...

Will do, I cancelled within 3 hours so don't think Bristol Energy had time to actually do anything. How long does the British Gas confirmation email take? I've signed up two properties using two different email addresses, I kept screenshots but still no emails for either account.

It wouldn't be trivial for me IF I could get onto the tariff, which realistically I won't be able to. The Standing charge makes up roughly 2/3rd of our current gas bill - meaning I'd save £66 a year - a substantial amount on a gas bill of under £100 a year.... of course, sadly, this is also the reason why I'll stand no chance of getting onto it!
I don't follow, if British Gas says you can switch and you switch in reliance on that commitment, that's a legally binding contract and they cannot back out of it. I was not asked anything about my consumption when they agreed that I could get the Oct 22 fix.
They'd have to be willing to take us as a customer in the first instance - it was hard enough before this crisis hit - last time I looked there was only 1 supplier even wiling to quote - Neon Reef! We were with them when the old Ebico/Robin Hood customers were transferred over - they honoured the end of our Zero fixed deal and then made VERY clear there would be nothing more where that had come from - the new prices were higher so we switched to....UP! So yes, no with EDF, and no realistic chance of switching anywhere until things open up again. In the longer term we'll probably consider changing the existing gas cooker to an electric/induction.

So if I'm remembering this right @Gerry1 was the first to highlight this tariff and attempt to switch to it, he has had to switch to BG SVT first and, despite being a month and a half further on from the agreed switch date, is still not on this tariff?  Has anybody actually been put on this tariff in recent times?  In other words do we have any actual proof whether all this jumping through hoops really works or I have missed something in the sequence of events? Thanks.
I wasn't the first: that was probably @Jon2021@arel, @Dee_Castle, @tg99, @akaWooders and others may also have succeeded.

I got an e-mail at 15:36 today from Neon Reef telling me that they've finally succumbed and that an SoLR will be appointed in dues course, so I'm gonna have to wait for my £23 credit from the middle of July.

Do you know which team sorted it for you?

I've been passed around on chat so many times but currently getting nowhere.
I just sat in the chat queue for ten minutes after I told the bot I wanted the deal, I think it was just the next agent, TBF she knew exactly what I wanted, set up a new account and took DD details there and then, took a while to finish but no messing about, it's probably a matter of luck who you get, and maybe whether they're on commission for signing up new customers  ;)

So is it best to cancel,my DD is due 27th and if i cancel will be only £20 or £30 in debt.So confusing as M Lewis says do not but in the Sun a few weeks back it said to cancel,To make it worse NR did not validate my meter and their is no actual bill just my meter readings. They kept saying they would sort it but never did.

Thanks, you were lucky. I gave up in the end after I was endlessly passed round in circles. They just kept telling me to set up an account online (on the only fixed tariff available) and then request to change to the tariff I want after 28 days.
  • What's all this BG zero fixed oct 2022 about....is it some hidden tariff NR customers can sign up for, reading through last 6 pages and I'm lost
