So if I'm remembering this right @Gerry1 was the first to highlight this tariff and attempt to switch to it, he has had to switch to BG SVT first and, despite being a month and a half further on from the agreed switch date, is still not on this tariff?  Has anybody actually been put on this tariff in recent times?  In other words do we have any actual proof whether all this jumping through hoops really works or I have missed something in the sequence of events? Thanks.

I signed up on 5th October to one of BG fixed tariffs, and was transferred over on 5th November to the Zero tariff with it backdated to the 5th October.  This was with an account that was previously with Igloo.

I'm amazed at the hurdles that people will jump over just to save an utterly trivial amount on their bill.
Personally I value my sanity, that's why I didn't muck about switching to NR after Synergy went bust.  Perhaps I could have saved the value of pack of crisps if I had, then I'd have had a whole bureaucratic nightmare to resolve, probably much more slowly than if I'd just gone along with the SoLR process as I have.
Has switching become some kind of bizarre online extreme sport?
My household uses more electricity than average. If I move to this British Gas deal, over the course of the next 12 months I stand to save around £500 £300 what with the current price cap and its inevitable increase in April, that would need to be suffered under SoLR. I think £500 £300 is worth the hassle.

But yes (and I've admitted it earlier in the thread) it is a bit of a hobby for me, too.

You say a trivial sum, but 2p per unit over a year works out at around £50 based on my consumption, and a zero standing charge works saves another £50 for that's about £100 a year. I'm not paying £100 a year more than I need to, I'm not running a charity you know.
  • It wouldn't be trivial for me IF I could get onto the tariff, which realistically I won't be able to. The Standing charge makes up roughly 2/3rd of our current gas bill - meaning I'd save £66 a year - a substantial amount on a gas bill of under £100 a year.... of course, sadly, this is also the reason why I'll stand no chance of getting onto it!

Just got off the chat with BG, all sorted on the chat, set up the account as Zero Fixed Oct 2022 there and then, the agent took a while to do stuff in the background, but confirmed that I will be on that tariff in 14 days, no having to go back and switch from SVR, let's see...

I don't follow, if British Gas says you can switch and you switch in reliance on that commitment, that's a legally binding contract and they cannot back out of it. I was not asked anything about my consumption when they agreed that I could get the Oct 22 fix.

Do you know which team sorted it for you?

I've been passed around on chat so many times but currently getting nowhere.

That was very lucky.  When I signed up they said this couldn't be done and I had to signup to a random tariff, only to be swapped over when it went live.  If you have signed up straight onto the correct one that is a lot better and less messing about.

Yes that's what I've been told so far. The only tariff I can sign up to online is a very expensive fixed one. I don't want to risk that and then discover my preferred tariff isn't available when the switch eventually goes live.
