Why? Why allow a b1tch to have a litter when you have no intention of keeping the pups? The only reason I can see is they see the pound signs, simple as. In my day, when you had a b!tch that you couldn't afford to have spayed or she got caught before you could, you put an ad in the vets or a shop window offering the pups to good homes, thats where most of us got our first pups, or from Battersea, It was only those who were wanting to show their dogs who had the money for pedigrees, and finding a breeder and having to go on the waiting list
When I got my last boy, I spent 6 weeks on the phone to breed club secretaries and breeders before I was accepted by one, and then I only got on the reserve list, being lucky to get my pup as someone dropping out and me having previous experience of the breed. I never even got to choose, the breeder interviewed perspective owners and matched the pup to the owner
The internet has a lot to answer for. Too easy for someone to see how much a pup can be worth and think oh look, Ive a b1tch - kerchang !!!
Surely the money you have taken for the puppy you have already sold can pay for the treatment of the other puppy should any be needed?0 -

So we sold it half the price a normal Shih Tzu sells for. But thar hasent covered what we have payed out so far. The thing is, if your made of money you are more likely to do things legitimately and legal.
Its just that I dont trust vets. They seem to charge what they like. And are not punctual either. Imagine this, the puppies appointment for an xray was 12 o'clock. Its now gone 4 o'clock and I rang them and they havent xrayed her yet which is unprofessional because what if we had other things on today. Its just lucky I'm on a day off and got no other appointments or something.0 -
Have you learned anything from this thread? Or do you still think that you are completely and utterly in the right?6

Your vet may have had an emergency case come in. I have been that emergency case and was veery grateful the people who waited patiently until my pet was attended to. I have also been happy to wait an hour for my appointment because an emergency had come in.
Or been called out to an emergency
or a previous procedure may have turned out to be more involved than first thought.
My dog went in for an op at a specialist vet at 9am but was not operated on until 5 pm due to an earlier case taking longer than expected.
What would have prevented you from doing something else or going somewhere else today? Your dog was safely held in the vets.
Of course vets charge what they like. As do Asda, Tesco and any other retail supplier.5 -

Most professional services seem expensive whey you are paying. That doesn't mean they are making excessive profits.
Because of the NHS many people have no idea of the cost of providing medical care. A small private general dental practice needs to bill over £200 an hour to function and a high street vet won't be much different. Vets generally earn significant less than doctors, despite spending just as long qualifying. You need to be in the top 5% educationally to get into vet / medical / dental school and it is then five or six years before you earn anything at all. Nearer ten before you anything like a half decent salary.

"Vets aren't punctual and they're unprofessional, which I'm going to make a fuss about about despite this whole situation being of my own doing. It's lucky for that puppy that I'm on a day off." Play that back to yourself and tell me you can't see how ridiculous you're being.5 -

I don't know about that, only 2.5 weeks before my pet Rags died, she went to the vets for an unrelated skin condition at which point the vet said to Dad 'not long left now' I knew nothing of this conversation until after she'd gone, on the night in question I was days from having started medication for anxiety so it was harder to raise help (at first I thought it was a hairball and that I was imaging things) whilst the mafia on here would be up in arms that I didn't take my cat to the vet and demand she be put to sleep, afterwards everyone said how Rags with her temperament went how she wanted to go after being with me nearly 10 years.
If given the option to distance myself thanks to money in this particular situation, I would never have lived with myself. I replayed that night so many times that all the money in the world would never have made it different from the handing over one of my last ever written cheque to the charity that allowed her to come to me, to the food and litter I'd make sure was there for my cat in the event of not being in a job.
Hope the puppy got on alright? I know when Rags went and I was facing an out of hours charge, leaving the cat carrier behind worked in my favour. I later only had to find the then revised costing for dealing with the body.0 -

Or poisoned?
