  • Unaware that the 14 day quarantine was still in place (we thought there was no restrictions in place between the two countries, but apparently not. The Irish can travel here without quarantine but not the other way around? makes absolutely no sense) my wife has booked us to fly out to visit family on the 15th July and return on the 20th, only to find out that the 14 days is still in place (ok she should have checked but that's irrelevant at the moment).
My question is why are Ryanair accepting  bookings knowing full well we cannot travel, and surely they have taken our money under false pretences? Add to this she paid with a debit card instead of credit card, wont happen again!
She has been in touch with Ryanair customer service today and they have said no refund, we should have checked. We may be able to defer to a later date but we'd rather have the money back.
    Any advice gratefully accepted

The EU regulation 261/2004 is published at https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/HTML/?uri=CELEX:32004R0261&from=EN - article 8 is the specific bit you're interested in....
Thanks. It doesn't seem clear to me, but I'll give it a try.

That's why sites like MSE offer journalistic summaries of your rights but I thought you wanted the underlying definitive legal source?

A halfway house in simpler language is https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/passenger-rights/air/index_en.htm, which clarifies the implication of cancellation at https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/passenger-rights/air/index_en.htm#cancellation:

    Cancelled flight

    Cancellation occurs when:

    • your original flight schedule is abandoned and you are transferred to another scheduled flight
    • [...]

If your flight is cancelled you have the right to reimbursement, re-routing or return, [...]

which in turn leads to https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/passenger-rights/air/index_en.htm#reimbursement-cancellation-1:

Reimbursement, re-routing or rebooking in the event of cancellation

The airline must offer you, on a one off basis, a choice between:

    1. the reimbursement of your ticket and, if you have a connecting flight, a return flight to the airport of departure at the earliest opportunity
    2. re-routing [...]
Ryanair may choose to present it as an insignificant change to your itinerary but if they're telling you that you need to fly on a different flight number at a different time then this clearly implies a cancellation of the original flight, thereby triggering refund rights....

Thanks esk, 'halfway house' was exactly what I was looking for.
  • I have a package holiday booked with loveholidays. We were due to depart on 6th July for 10 days to Lanzarote. EasyJet (the airline love holidays booked us with have informed me that both outbound and inbound flights are cancelled. I have not heard anything from love holidays about our hotel or transfer and can’t get in touch with them. We are now only six days away and love holidays have only cancelled holidays up until today (30th june. Any advise would be great thanks.

Just to update, I have just had my email confirming that a cash refund will be made back to my card as requested. This is for a holiday departing 23rd April.
The March holiday was refunded a couple of weeks back and the full amount already received.

So... am due a refund but have changed bank  accounts so the one I paid with doesn't exist now. Ryanair have said I can't give them new details. My old bank said they will just send it back to Ryanair.  Do I just accept the vouchers?

Can Ryanair not send you a cheque? I'd be unsurprised if they had a booking clause that stated the refund must be made back to the same account the payment was taken from. Failing any practical solution by Lyingair, you could try a chargeback from your new bank account, although you won't have a record of outgoing payment....conundrum really.

Nope, they have to pay back to the method used. Not their policy they have no choice

I've just received a partial refund for my flights, but no explanation as to why it is a partial refund. Ryanair website & live chat is non-responsive. Can anyone explain why its only a partial refund? Is this expected, or should I not have received a full refund?
