I had flights booked to Italy (Brindisi) at the end of July. I was playing a waiting game until I received a mail from Ryanair on Weds informing me they have cancelled our flights. A very easy procedure to click a link for refund on their website.
I can only presume the flight was not very full hence the proactive cancellation on their part.0 -

I'm surprised Ryanair isn't charging people for joining a priority refund queue.

We opted for a refund from Ryanair when flights from Krakow were cancelled on 20 March, then on 9 April they confirmed it was in the queue. An email they sent on 20 April included voucher details with a link to accept but we did not click it as we had already applied for the refund. After finally getting a response from a live chat agent I now discover that we were no longer in the refund queue and had to join a new queue, which is just outrageous. We should not expect such practices from such a large company.
They say their refund teams are unable to access customer details from home so will not issue refunds until the refund teams can return to their offices when the government eases coronavirus restrictions, but they would not confirm what degree of easing will permit this saying that was dealt with by a different department, which they declined to contact for an answer. Not only that, you have no record of the chat record once it disappears from the screen if you pause your responses for more than a few minutes.
I'm sure that Ryanair could have found a way if they really wanted to, given modern technology. This contrasts with Wizzair who paid us our refund last week - it still took 2 months but I know who I would entrust with my bookings in future. We are left to conclude that Ryanair have operated a convenient smokescreen to advantage their cash flow at their customer's expense, and their goodwill.1 -

Slightly off topic but do you think Ryanair will release summer 2021 flights any earlier? We are due to fly to Crete at the end of August and if the quarantine rules are still in place amongst other things means our thoughts are not to go and try and transfer our flights to next summer (appreciate that will incur fees) but bit worried they won't be released before we go. Obviously if FCO guidelines are still in place for non-essential travel then I can make a claim on our insurance.0
