The 70% of garages are incapable of servicing a car correctly came from an independent report from trading standards using undercover investigators. The report seems to have been removed from the internet but a summary is here.

There is a similar report from Wales trading standards from autumn 2011

One of the funny things that happened after the reports was the motor industry said it would regulate itself so they set up the Motor Ombudsman service which is an impartial service housed in the same building and funded by the The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. Not surprisingly consumers haven't been impressed by it.

Irrelevant links that still don't back up your "all garages are crooks" claims you keep making.

The BBC link above doesn't state anything about 70% of garages being incapable of servicing a car.

The 70% was from the original trading standards report. If the report had been good there would have been no point me driving around with it in my car because it wouldn't have helped me.

I'm not sure how it would have helped you even if it were true.

Going back to the OP. His car will be getting it's first oil change at 2 years and 26000 miles. Hopefully the garage will change the oil. If they 'forget' it will be 4 years and 52000 miles. Seems a bit much to me. I do every 8000 miles. My Haynes manual tells me to forget dealer schedules. Oil changes are good for your car. Every 6 months or 6000 miles is their recommendation. Does the OP go for an extra oil change? I would personally.

My first Peugeot  , a 1991 405 1.9d, had services every 6000 miles. My last a 2006 407 2.7d had one every 2 years or 20k miles. I was told it was because of the change to synthetic oils.  Strangely my current jaguar which has basically the same engine is 1 year or 16k miles.

I expect the servicing should be the same as current Renaults. The oil change interval is 18k - so if the mileage is 9k or above at the 12 month service the oil should be changed.

OP you should get back in touch with the dealer .. as has been pointed out - if you wait another 12 months you're likely to be at 26k and that's just wrong. Ask them how that's going to work?

I dont see any mention of 70%

I do however see a mention of 0.25% - "The Office of Fair Trading receives approximately 10,000 complaints about service and repair garages - less than 0.25 % of all services done."
