fred246 said:My dad used to have black oil after a main dealer service, the same colour as he took it in with. He used to phone up and say they hadn't serviced it. They would never admit it. They used to say "we have changed the oil sir, but for your complete 100% satisfaction if you would like to bring it back we will repeat the oil change for free". When it came back the second time it would have clean oil. The worst penalty for the garage for not changing the oil is - changing the oil. What percentage of customers check their oil after a service?
buy you are right not many check oil level ever if they did they would notice that dealers put oil in by book capacity which is to max line before starting which is half way between min and max after the filter has filled1 -
When I used to run a transit van , well the company did but I used to service and maintain it ,I used to drain the oil and change the oil filter, run for 10 minutes and then change the oil again, we used to buy the oil in bulk for our hire fleet so not a great cost.
did it make the sump oil look clean after the second change? yes. did it do the engine any good, probably a waste of oil if the truth was told but it looked good for a day or so

I'm contacting the garage tomorrow so will let you know what they say..... the service was only £101 which I thought good for a main dealer first service, maybe this is why it was cheap as the oil isn't changed??0

The garage have come back, and the Dacia Duster has oil changes every 2 years..... never heard of that before...0

My previous car (Golf GT 2.0 Tdi), it being a company car, was on the long service schedule which meant servicing every 2 years or 18k miles. So it's not unknown.0

But they've changed the filter? If you've done 13K it will be 26K before the first oil change? I wouldn't leave it that long. I suppose it depends on your long term plans for the car.0

fred246 said:I used to drive round with a piece of paper which stated that 70% of garages were incapable of servicing a car properly. In case my breakdown cover said that my car broke down because it didn't have a garage service history. It never broke down though so I never used it.
Boring.......Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....1 -
The 70% of garages are incapable of servicing a car correctly came from an independent report from trading standards using undercover investigators. The report seems to have been removed from the internet but a summary is here.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/873645.stm
There is a similar report from Wales trading standards from autumn 2011
https://www.tradingstandardswales.org.uk/projects/reports.cfm
One of the funny things that happened after the reports was the motor industry said it would regulate itself so they set up the Motor Ombudsman service which is an impartial service housed in the same building and funded by the The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. Not surprisingly consumers haven't been impressed by it.
