Jet2 refund thread

I’m really hoping that someone can help me. I’ve booked a holiday for myself and 4 others with Jet2 directly for the 17th July, and have already paid off nearly 50% of the booking. The full payment is due on the 21st May (after I managed to extend it by 14 days on the website). My big issue is that a member of our party has just diagnosed with cancer and can no longer travel due to having to receive treatment. As it stands, Jet2s policy says I can cancel the holiday within 70 days of the departure date, and only lose my deposit if I cancel. They have closed their phone lines and no aren’t dealing with any customers who holidays falls after the 17th June, so nobody is getting back to me.I need to cancel this booking, as the family really doesn’t need the rest of the money coming out when someone is off work from illness, and others not working due to Covid... however, I can’t lose the 50% I’ve already paid off.
I paid for the holiday on my credit card, however, I don’t have travel insurance, although the member with the illness does. Can anyone please give me any advice? Thanks in advance,0 -
You have only 2 options , cancel and lose deposit or pay the balance and protect the whole lot. You then let jet2 cancel the holiday and refund
Your credit card will not entertain a claim because you cancel.
Jet2 are giving cash refund , suspect that will continue past 17th June

Understood, but what if the holiday isn’t cancelled and I still can’t go on the holiday but then I’m outside of the current 70 day cancellation date?0

Someone could try and claim a refund for a deposit on the grounds it isn't fair that a company can profit for offering a service that in the end they don't provide
As many companies are using "force majeure" to stop any compensation being paid, an argument could be make the consumer as that same right so the company isn't entitled to any compensation (keeping the deposit)
Not found any legal ruling on this issue, if it could be or not.
If anyone can point me to one I'd be grateful.

Just a point - if you had insurance you would likely be covered under that, in future always book insurance as soon as you've booked travel.1 -
I agree with you, but some people are still trying to push holidays in the summer. I’ve just seen this slightly strange article from an English language media outlet in Spain.Browntoa said:Trust me , nobody will be flying anywhere in July

I have had a holiday cancelled by Jet2holidays because of the virus. They have offered me a rebook or holiday credit voucher. I do not want to rebook so I am contemplating taking the voucher. Does anyone know if these vouchers are ATOL protected incase Jet2holidays go bust?0
