BA flights booked in November 2019 for travel in July to Orlando and returning to London in August 2020. A substantial deposit was paid and based on MSE advice we will look to pay the remainder off shortly. Also paid for was selected seats on the outbound flight. Am I best placed to keep an eye on what is happening with the flights for now and see what BA suggest nearer the time? If the flight is cancelled what happens with regard to the booked seats part?
Flights and seats have been paid for by CC.0 -
I don't really get your logic - they seem to be dealing with flights booked after 3 March, when the repercussions of the pandemic issue were much more widely understood. However, flights booked before that date are not covered. I do have a personal axe to grind here, as - similarly to Carol - I booked in February, to fly in September. Am waiting to see whether the whole trip I've planned is likely to be affected.Aylesbury_Duck said:
I think the problem you have is that your flights are independent of the conference and therefore it's not technically a cancellation because of covid-19 anyway.CarolHawley said:I booked a flight to New York with British Airways in February, for travel to a conference in August 2020. I need to cancel as the the conference has been cancelled. But BA say they will only allow refunds due to Coronavirus if you booked after 3rd March. How can they not pay out for people who booked in February when no-one knew the extent of disruption this pandemic would cause?
Personally, I disagree with your final sentence. I think it was very clear back in February that this was going to be a pandemic with major consequences, even if it wasn't officially declared as such until March and even when leaders like Trump were dismissing it as trivial. It was simply the timing. It arrived in the western world much sooner and in much greater numbers than envisaged.0 -
Thank you, very much appreciated. The whole experience with BA at Heathrow was appalling.. and not all can be put down to the current situation. No wheelchair waiting for our daughter on arrival from Tokyo ( it had been booked and double checked ) so we had to rummage around to find one to enable us to get from one terminal to another. We landed at 13.15 so overall ended up with a 6 1/2 hour delay and they even refused to consider giving us vouchers for food and drink. By then I was too shattered to argue so just sorted it myself. I know it's difficult times but that's when your customer service is measured. Compared to JAL staff - who were phenemonal in helping our daughter with her wheelchair and her needs - BA staff just came across as not caring, not interested and bored, this in a deserted airport so no excuse of gazillions of clients and being over-run with queries, problems etc. Heathrow was a 'ghost town'.bagand96 said:
So you did travel on the 19:50 LHR-NCL? I guess you're trying to claim EC261 compensation for being delayed by more than 3 hours? The EU have said that cancellations due to Coronavirus are exceptional circumstances, and therefore compensation is not due.Fable1506 said:We booked a round trip Newcastle to Tokyo via Heathrow. Flew out March 8th , returned March 26th 2020. Booked via Japan Air on a codeshare, BA did both flights outbound and the Heathrow - Newcastle leg on the 26th.
We were informed by JAL 5 days prior to our flight home that our HRW-NCL leg was cancelled ( 16.40 on the 26th ) and we were now booked on the 19.50 flight instead. Since I wasn't sure whether we could ( possibly ) claim for either the cancellation or the fact we were put on a flight 3 hours + later we went via Resolver.
Got a response today from Resolver - BA say flight cancelled due to low number of passengers due to Coronavirus so nothing due to us in the way of refund or vouchers. The flight we were on at 19.50 only had around 20 people on anyway!
Should I leave it there or do we have a case? Apologies if I posted on the wrong board, all this is very new to me.
Look at it another way, in the middle of a global pandemic you were delayed by 3 hours on a long haul journey. I'd chalk it up to experience and move on.

I understand BA could have been more helpful, but it's the airport that has the duty to get your daughter to and from the gate.

On a flight LHR-NCL, then after 2 hour delay, you are entitled to refreshments from the airline. If this wasn't forthcoming at the time, you will be able to submit reasonable expense receipts to be re-imbursed.Fable1506 said:Thank you, very much appreciated. Hello, apologies if someone has already asked similar but can anyone advise if I’m due a full flight refund if only one leg of my flight has been cancelled by BA? We have flights booked departing Edinburgh on 27 June to NYC, returning from Orlando 17 July, both ways we change flights in London. They have today emailed to say that the Edinburgh to Heathrow flight has been cancelled. The four flights are all on the same booking so does anyone know if I’m entitled to a refund just on the first portion just now or if I have a right to claim a refund for the full amount? We have no expectation of going on this trip but if we were there are currently no BA flights available which we could change to and make our connecting flight to JFK unless we travelled down the night before. I know that I’ll need to call BA to request a refund but weighing up whether to wait until the other three flights are cancelled/FCO guidance still in place at time of travel or go and sit in the queue now, thanks0

Thanks! Thought that would be the case. I booked direct, I’m a silver member so used some points but not that many and not bothered about getting them back. So far I’ve taken vouchers for BA flights booked for work trips but for an expensive family holiday I’d really rather have the cash back.Life__Goes__On said:"

Yes, they need to fully refund you including points, but understand you might not want to chase the points if it's not many.JSco said:

So I applied for a travel voucher earlier in the month because they told me I was eligible and it can be used on current future bookings. Later I got an email saying I can't get the voucher which is fine. But I've now had an email saying I have a voucher but it can only be used for new bookings. Can I go back to them saying I don't want it?0
