British airways refund

  • The most effective way to contact BA to get a refund seems to be DM on twitter. There is a thread on this called “ British Airways, managed to get a refund” the first post tells you exactly how to do it & several forumites are reporting success with this method.

I tried the Twitter method and none of my messages was answered or even acknowledged. However after several attempts I did get through to someone at BA and they processed the refund straight away.

    Thanks also Mr Stripey

Will try the Twitter way but will also keep trying on the phones.

    Again, many thanks

Yeah I got kicked around by their phone system lots of times - sometimes it says they are too busy - please call back later, other times it said cannot answer due to technical fault. I was on hold for a long time and I got the distinct impression that the girl who handled the call had had probably more than she could take from frustrated customers. I was extra nice to her asking about her day and sympathizing with her being stuck at work on such a beautiful day. In the end the refund was processed in less than a minute.
    Good luck
  • I have paid a £500 deposit for a holiday with BA.  I'm due to pay the balance of £2700 on the 24/04/20. My problem is that in light of the current Corona virus situation I don't think the holiday will go ahead. I'm due to fly out on 12/06/20.  But at this point BA are still saying the holiday will happen. I'm very reluctant to pay any more money to them as at this point all they are offering is vouchers. And I don't want  £3200 tied up in Vouchers at a time when my income has almost vanished. I have tried contacting BA and reminded them that the balance payment is due very soon. What I have asked them is , if I don't make the balance payment will I lose the holiday and my deposit. At this point 5 days after emailing them I still have no answer.  As I said before. £3200 is too much money to have tied up at this time.
Can you advise or help with where I stand.
  • I have exchanged many Twitter DM’s with BA about a refund to no avail. I never requested a voucher but they proceeded with issuing one contrary to my request for refund. I never requested a voucher. Their final DM response... << As advised, a refund is not possible. As the voucher was requested, this can't be exchanged. We appreciate your frustration, however, we can only reiterate what has been advised to you and our response will not change. Cody>>.  Tried to call BA but that also was to no avail. Very disappointing really.

If you don't make the payment, you have cancelled the holiday and will lose your deposit.  That may be the best option in your circumstances.

The alternative is to pay the balance and accept the vouchers/refund when the holiday is cancelled by BA.

As it stands at the moment there is no requirement to take a voucher, getting a refund though might not be easy.

As above though you need to wait for them to cancel you then fight for a refund, you have the option of a chargeback, section 75 or an insurance claim depending on methods of payment and insurance terms. Here’s The MSE guide to chargebacks

    https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/visa-mastercard-chargeback/

If the rules do change to allow companies to insist on offering a voucher then I’m sure it will be plastered up here on MSE at that point.

    Hi.

Don’t know if people perhaps thought the lines might have been closed due to being Easter Sunday, but just tried calling them 10 minutes ago and got through first time.

Refund arranged in just a couple of minutes.

Thanks again for the replies, and good luck to anyone else trying to get through.

  • Quite contrary to the impression given, BA are not offering vouchers even for flights they themselves have cancelled. Where is the number for an eVoucher which, were it a voucher, could be redeemed easily online? In fact BA first deters you from joining a telephone queue in order to claim a refund, then merely provides you once again with the original ticket number which you can then only redeem by telephone. Only then do you discover the scam that you then have to pay a higher price for a new booking because it is via telephone and not online. You then try to ask BA to provide a refund when you are then told it is not possible. I suggest challenging this via Resolver as recommended by Martin Lewis, as I might suggest this sharp practice by BA is at best deliberate misrepresentation and at worst fraudulent. Remember that BA were at the front of the queue of airlines preventing the government from supporting Flybe, so BA’s conduct should be remembered when they expect a bail-out on top of deceiving their customers.

I had flight bookings with BA.
My booking reference no longer exists. No flight voucher has been issued. Email complaints just generate a response telling me to call the Customer Service number. The Customer Service number sends me through several menu options before telling me they can't take my call.

At a loss to know what to do now....
