British airways refund

BA cancelled my LHR-GLA morning flight on Mar 20, 2020. Switched to afternoon flight. Also cancelled. Switched me to evening flight from London City on opposite side of London. Checked by phone whether this flight would definitely go - 'No guarantee' - so they accepted that 2-day trip probably best cancelled. Refunded my £11 preferred seating charge, all booked at same time as my flight but no refund on main flight itself. Few days later, unrequested by me, an email voucher was sent to me. Called them today on 0800 727 800. Very sympathetic but 'no mechanism to process a refund'. Suggested I call Customer Services on 0344 493 0787 - Option 3 then Option 2 - and explain family illness circumstances. Call takes you to a prerecorded message with 'centralised customer support' on 0800 727 800 so even BA staff appear not to know what is going on inside BA! Coronavirus travel restrictions will lift eventually. If BA imagine that their handling of this refund fiasco will endear them to future potential customers, they have a very rude - and costly! - awakening ahead of them.0

Hi I had booked 2 return flights with BA in March and cancelled them within a couple of hours (ie in plenty of time ) as it says you have 24 hours to cancel .. I have only just got a refund and I have lost over £400.00 in exchange rates and £200. exchange rates from the Credit card company .. if they had refunded me within 24hours I wouldn't have lost so much in exchange rates.. can I ask for the loss I have incurred ?0

On 16/02/2020 I booked return flights for my wife and myself through BA online.( I have been doing this since 2011, so I have an idea what I am doing). This for a wedding 01/09/2020 which has just been postponed until 2021. As I didn’t know the new dates I applied for a Voucher. However, although booked at the same time I have 2 booking references, one for outgoing flight on 30/08/2020 and one for incoming 02/09/2020. The Email confirmations of the flight bookings have the same time stamp 12:23pm. My credit card statement shows 4 payments(!!) with consecutive reference numbers, although processing was the following day. British Airways have issued 2 Vouchers for the outgoing flight but refused on the incoming as it has different reference and they are only issuing on flights up to 31/08/2020. I eventually got through to BA and was told to wait as they might extend the Voucher period later but with the airways beginning to open up I am not holding my breath. Anyone with same issue or thoughts?

That's correct. Your inbound flights are on separate reservations and don't fit cancellation criteria yet. You have to wait and see if they extend voucher period or maybe just cancel your flights in the meantime.

I understand the issue about the voucher and dates but I don't follow why there are two booking references. If I book a return journey outward and return at the same time, then all flights should be on the same PNR. Two PNRs would imply if, say, BA cancelled the first sector of the outward journey then they'd have no liability for the return journey, which is clearly nonsense.
As an aside, if its a flight only (rather than a holiday) booking, BA do seem to put through each sector for each passenger separately on your statement, so nothing unusual there.

On a related but slightly different note, has anyone successfully REDEEMED a future travel voucher from BA? Extremely frustratingly you have to call to book using a voucher - even though the website already has a facility to redeem vouchers. Even more annoyingly, the automated message basically tells you they can't answer the call right now and then ends the call. I've tried so many times I am fairly certain the line simply isn't manned. If I don't book these flights, I lose the money on the accommodation I had moved (to dates I did not agree to) which my travel insurance company has already wriggled out of paying out for. As a frazzled NHS worker the absolute last thing I need is to have to spend what downtime I have begging to have vouchers honoured so I can finally take the holiday I saved for for over a year!
I have DMd on Twitter - not holding my breath that I will get a response before I lose my £5 fee for holding the booking.
What else have people tried and what worked?0 -

the phone lines are manned but members of the BA executive club Have priority numbers so effectively jump the queue. Hence the long waits when they are busy.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
