I paid £210 for BA flights. I had to make a date change after the original booking which cost £6 plus £120 admin free for the booking. My flight was in April and was cancelled due to COVID. I have requested a refund but have been told I’m not entitled to the £120 back as it was a non-refundable charge. Can I dispute this? I am left with no flight and £120 worse off through no fault of my own. Thanks

If you made the date change before the virus affected flights, then the usual rule is that fee would not be refundable. If you changed the date afterwards, then yes you should be refunded.

Anyone else received an unexpected refund from BA? I'd accepted a voucher but I now have an unexpected credit balance on my card. Weird.

Careful you don't keep a refund and use a voucher above what you paid.

  • Hi,
I have had a holiday to south Africa we traveled on the 6th of January and were due to fly back on the 31st of March BA Cancelled the return flight so we had to pay £2.5 k to get back to the U.K. with another airline.
BA sent me the following Thank you for contacting British Airways.
We have received your Future Travel Voucher application, unfortunately, your booking is not eligible for a voucher as you have already started your journey.
We have however updated your reservation accordingly, keeping the remaining part of your ticket open for future use. When you are ready to rebook, please contact the British Airways contact center who will be able to make the change to your booking. Please retain your booking reference as well as your ticket number
I would like a refund but not sure where I stand Legally
    Thanks for your help
    Best regards

Rather than chase a refund on the cancelled flight, you should be claiming the £2.5K back  (I'm guessing it's more then the original cancelled flight)

Will I still be able to claim a refund though if the flight goes? Just concerned the option for refund is removed for some reason given the uncertainty.
If you wait 1-2 week before flight, you will know if it will be going or not. BA publishes schedule for next month ahead of time. You won't get refund until your flight is officialy cancelled. And you can get voucher now or a few days before flight, you're not losing anything by waiting. So if you want cash, just wait for official cancellation. I would definitely wait instead of lending £5K to British Airways in the form of voucher.

Thank you, very much appreciated. The whole experience with BA at Heathrow was appalling.. and not all can be put down to the current situation. No wheelchair waiting for our daughter on arrival from Tokyo ( it had been booked and double checked ) so we had to rummage around to find one to enable us to get from one terminal to another. We landed at 13.15 so overall ended up with a 6 1/2 hour delay and they even refused to consider giving us vouchers for food and drink. By then I was too shattered to argue so just sorted it myself.  I know it's difficult times but that's when your customer service is measured. Compared to  JAL staff - who were phenemonal in helping our daughter with her wheelchair and her needs - BA staff just came across as not caring, not interested and bored, this in a deserted airport so no excuse of gazillions of clients and being over-run with queries, problems etc. Heathrow was a 'ghost  town'.

On a flight LHR-NCL, then after 2 hour delay, you are entitled to refreshments from the airline.  If this wasn't forthcoming at the time, you will be able to submit reasonable expense receipts to be re-imbursed.
Thank you. I'm just putting the whole sorry episode behind us.

Our flight to Rome in June was cancelled by BA. As we wanted a refund rather than a voucher we tried ringing them without success at first. Kept getting "please call later" advice. In the end my husband did not press 1 or 2 option but just held on and we go through to a human. They promised a refund after 21 working days. so now it is just a waiting game. Fingers crossed. Good luck everyone.

Quick update to say that I waited on hold for 20 minutes to BA this morning (pretty good I thought) and got a refund of both the cash and Avios points. No hassle,
no mention of a voucher, very straightforward. Points already back on my account, email confirming the cash refund in my inbox and advised that it may take up to 15 days for the refund to process. Very happy with that so long as the refund appears.
Thanks for the update, helps us to help others.
Could you update when (hopefully soon) you receive the money back.
Money was back on my credit card this morning, so given that I spoke to BA on Saturday that’s barely 2 working days to get the money back. Very impressed and to be fair always have been very happy with BA in the past. Very much hope that they survive this as I’ll continue to fly with them in the future whenever that may be.
Thanks for the advice and good luck to anyone else trying to get their money back.
