Old Style Weight Loss 2020 - Part 2

Morning xx
All I can say is that as far as I know there is no law that says you have to wait until Easter Sunday before you eat your Easter eggApril, so far, is a disaster - I've lost my routine, my rhythm, my willpower and found anxiety (never far away), insomnia, and 'if it's edible, eat it'. I've not heard of 'mouth hunger' before - but I am definitely not 'stomach hungry' when I hit the cupboards in the evening. Aaaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhh.
I'm going to follow jules81 (waves to jules) example and count the calories - which I seem to remember was how I succeeded in losing weight in March. Does anyone else feel that March is already a lifetime ago?
The only thing to pass my lips so far today is a cuppa made with skimmed milk - but it's not daytime eating that is snookering me. Any tips on how to stop evening munchies and how to re-discover will power will be gratefully received.
I am dreading WI on Saturday - damage limitation for two days now - without being daft. And time to be firm but kind to myself and not beat myself up.... as that will make me feel worse, and then I'll eat stuff my face again.
Sorry to haver on. I'm trying to recalibrate my inner compass.
Stay safe

are you just plain tired in the evenings? Eating to keep going?
Crunchy food can work for mouth hunger... the proverbial stick of celery!
Can you make your evening meal a bit later? Have you tried brushing your teeth straight after you've eaten?... a few of us find that helpful.
Just a few ideas. Good luck.A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it

Hi lovely people, just to say that my goal for this quarter will be a modest 5 pounds, hoping for a bit more, but every pound would cheer me up.
Yesterday was quite good,
Br oats, musli and banana
lunch a white roll with cheese (not great)
snack pear and some wheat crackers
dinner was cous cous salad wit a fish burger and a veggie burger!
I went for a run and a short walk with the dog, and tidied the garage so a fairly active day
I wish i could also count the pounds I don't put on this quarter of being at home and too close to the fridge and a bit restless.
roundtuit can u look at your rutines in the evening, schedule a skype call, go for a walk, start knitting, schedule a healthy ish snack, a nice cup of tea, miso is quite filling as a soup drink, spicy chai tea tastes sweet without sugar, best of luck.Isa help to buy: 1000/3000 33%

Hi there roundtuit, if you are counting calories then I highly recommend the nutracheck website but they do charge to use their website although there is usually a free 7 day trial to see if you like it. Other than that there is MyFitnessPal which is free to use but not quite as user friendly I think. I have lost five and a half stone so far but have many many stones to go. If you are looking for something to eat to settle your self then I agree with tighteningthebelt, crunchy food is key. Celery, crackers even a packet of French fries crisps are all helpful without using up too many of your calories. How about making a picky plate for the evenings if that is your worst time with a selection of the above and some fresh fruit and chopped up veg. Sorry, don't want to bombard you, just trying to think what I have found helpful. Good luck xx6

Im another who brushes their teeth about 6pm and have found it really discourages me to eat and drink tea - which I drink copiously and obviously caffeine keeps you awake x
Well I've had a right anxious morning so far as my benefits were not paid - i got into a right tizzy -but hopefully getting sorted. I didn't resort to food though just drank gallons of tea!
Hugs to you all nice to see you back Dumpling xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

Morning All,
Well, it's another gorgeous day here. I hope it's the same for everyone else.
Sirens I hope you enjoy your break from work and manage to find things to do to avoid tempation
Blue Doggy It must be hard having your family that far away. Even though I can't see them at the moment at least my parents are only about 5 miles away. I know what you mean about it being odd having to keep your distance from people when you're out.
jules I had to laugh at your reason for changing your weigh in day. I had the same problem with our bathroom floor, it took me forever to find a spot which actually weighed consistently
dumpling Welcome back, I was hoping you'd join us again. I think that stress eating at the moment is going to be a very common thing, it's good that you've recognised it and are trying to deal with it though.
TTB 1 extra weetabix is definitely better than the amount I'd end up scoffing if I went to bed hungry.
roundtuit There's nothing wrong with eating Easter eggs before Easter and please don't ever feel the need to apologise, we've all been through similar dieting wobbles. As much as I hate the phrase, we really are dealing with unprecedented times so the lack of routine, the anxiety, insomnia and everything else are to be expected. Not that knowing that it's a perfectly normal response to what's happening makes it any easier to deal with... I do find that when I've got munchies for the need to eat, rather than actual hunger, I'll always take the quickest, easiest option so having healthy things already prepped in the fridge helps.
ditty Yes, being able to count what we would normally have put on as a loss would be great. I know that I generally add between 2-3lb a week when I've completely lost the dieting plot so maybe I should class anything better than putting on half a stone a month as a win
Yesterday's food was pretty good, apart from a couple of beers while we had a Zoom get-together for a friend's birthday. As horrible as not being able to see people is, I'm glad that at least we now have the technology to make keeping in touch remotely a lot easier.
Best of luck and stay safe everyone xx6 -
Thank you to you all xx
It's not a lovely day here Izadora - it's dull and cold! I've put the heating on. Forecast is warmer for tomorrow though.
I'm also glad of the technology to 'manage' things from home - so far I've learned how to pay the rent and my gas bill online, and I've just sent my first birthday card to a school friend turning 60 next week, without leaving my armchair
Take care

Welcome back Dumpling, the thread wouldn't be the same without you
It's a mad world we are currently living in Roundtuit and I think so many people are anxious because of it, you're like most of us in eating when stressed or when the world has turned up side down. Just don't forget the rule of the thread and be kind to yourselfif things don't go how you want them on the WI we're here to help dust you down and pop you back on the wagon so you can start again. I was once told that if desperate, even with your jaw wired you can eat a liquidised mars bar (other chocolate bars are available
) and if you can't 'haver on' here where can you
I try to knit, cross stitch, sew or anything else which I don't want messy fingers to do, watching TV or reading means it's so easy to stuff my face at the same time without realising what I'm pigging out on. Thanks to Cranky's link I'm trying to learn to crochet at the moment which is good for taking my brain away from most things, unfortunately the cat who steals my wool when i knit is more interested in the crochet hook and tries to 'help' or he swipes the tablet so i lose the tutorial
I hope things got sorted out for you Molly
Ladies the correct process is to move the scales around the bathroom until they read the lowest weight
It's another beautiful day here and I'm grabbing a late lunch before we start testing again, it's a bit like ground hog day at the moment
I made some chicken stock last night, so skimmed the fat off this morning and made chicken soup for lunch. A little warm i know but my dining room is chilly and it was very nice, it was only a small chicken so it made 3 good size portions with added veg. Dinner will be a HM burger with portobello mushrooms rather than a bun and I'm not sure what else i hoping that will come to me when I open the fridge later.Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin7 -
Thank you Brambling they are not - unfortunately. The money is stuck in the ether betwixt and between the DWP and the bank - i hope its sorted asap as it has made for a very anxious day xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

Hello all,
Good to see you back dumpling and hello to the other newbies. Molly I hope your money turns up soon, but we have 4 non banking days on the trot now so it may not show up in your account until Tuesday even if the powers that be have managed to unstick it. I'm waiting for the mythical 80% of wages that was quickly promised but apparently the "portal" needed for employers to claim it won't be in operation until the end of April. I'm ok and have the money to pay bills etc but some people live week to week or month to month and I can imagine that there is serious hardship being caused.
One of my friends who was very supportive when I was widowed has lost her lovely sister in law to Covid 19. I've known the family for longer than I've had the HT so in the absence of any other coping strategy I ate my way round the house yesterday evening. If I'm lucky it will mean a STS as I also went outdoors and took it out on the garden for four hours yesterday. The garden no longer looks like it's been abandoned. I'm trying to see the positive side of this enforced holiday at home - my house and garden will be much cleaner and tidier by the end of it. Once I've caught up on all the main jobs I'm going to start on the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes. I bought a dress in London last year and I can't find it. Enough said.....
Take care and stay safe all of you
