Old Style Weight Loss 2020 - Part 2

Morning Losers.
Dumpling, thank goodness, you have reappeared. I was getting anxious, as were the good folk on the Daily thread. So sorry that you have been in the wars again. Everything crossed that the medical proceedures are not as scary as you fear (theyre usually not) and that nothing 'interesting' is found. Phew! 11 lbs is a lot, you will do well if you maintain that for a bit.
Blue, you have done spectacularly well to get within 9lbs of your wedding weight. I know exactly what you mean by ancient lard. I starved into my wedding dress, managed to keep within a stone of that weight for years and then the menopause, divorce, teenage sons, and business stress hit altogether and the rest is a very large history.
You'll get there, even if it's an ounce at a time.
Sorry, the Chelsea prize winner won't be around here any time soon. I think you may be mistaking me for someone prepared to work. My idea of gardening is akin to the lady who said that the best way of gardening was in a shady hat, with a glass of something cool in hand while telling the man where to dig. Outdoor housework may be necessary, but not relished.
Roundtuit, you are my inspiration Keep the goals small and attainable, creep up on them with tiny steps and you will win. I didn't do any twitchin' with Chuck yesterday 'cos Son and his friend were around and I didn't want to frighten them off.
Brambling, you couldn't have been REALLY hungry after a good dinner, but in those circumstances I've found that if the tummy is still complaining after a glass of water, a SMALL, PLANNED, snack usually settles it.
That is the hardest part of my new way of eating, the water drinking, but I think it is making a difference. I don't aspire to the 8 glasses a day advised by nutritionists ( what planet do these people live on?) but do try to gulp down at least 3, and always keep a glass by my bed for sipping if I should wake and finish the glass when I first wake up in the morning.
Who is it who is losing weight by eating cream teas? I'll lose this post if I go back to look. Do you mean a REAL scone with REAL clotted cream and REAL jam. Words fail me! The nearest I can get is a crispbread spread with low fat cream cheese and a transparent smear of something red. Dissolves into tears of self-pity.I believe that friends are quiet angels

But @monnagran you may find that with your new mindful way of eating, half a scone with a little good quality jam and a dollop of clotted cream would be very satisfying!
@dumpling - I most lurk on here, but was drawn to comment initially by monnagran’s mindful eating revelation. However, I have had lots of hysteroscopies and biopsies, so want to reassure you that the procedure itself is nothing to worry about. You may have a little cramping afterwards - I try to do bed rest for 48 hours (alternating with lying on the sofa and lying in the garden for a change of scenery, and a couple of short walks to keep me mobile), then very gentle recovery for the next few days. As for the results, you can only deal with those when they arrive - I was lucky and my problem was caught early so I have long term preventative treatment and am now on 3-yearly reviews. Feel free to PM me if it would help. In the meantime, focus on eating well (lots of leafy greens and protein) and consider vitamin C and iron supplements (non-constipating!) to get yourself as healthy as possible and promote healing. You can’t see the biopsy site so it’s easy to forget that it needs to heal. And most of all, be kind to yourself. It’s ok to be worried and scared.9 -

Good Afternoon All,
So much to catch up on!! Sorry if I miss/forget anyone, I did read through everything but the beginning of the month is always hectic at work so my brain's a bit scrambled.
Cranky Sorry about the funeral, it's such an odd thing not to be able to be with people and comfort them. Well done for getting back to you a STS from before C25K
Blue Doggy Well done on the loss and very well done for being within 9lb of your wedding weight. I only got married 3 years ago but I'm around 2 stone heavier now
roundtuit Well done on the loss and sorry about the earworm. I've never watched so it wasn't intentional and I have no clue what a Tatty Bogle is! I love your new projects, best of luck with them.
Gingerlily Welcome back. I regularly lose the plot and it'll be a miracle if I manage to end this challenge the same weight, let alone lighter, as I started so please don't ever feel that you can't post if you're not sticking to it.
monnagran Well done on the loss and meeting your target for this challenge, your way of eating definitely suits you. Well done to your son for the effort in the garden, my approach to gardening is much more like yours.
Black Saturn Sorry about the gain, at least you know where you think it came from so hopefully it will disappear again soon
Brambling Well done for handing over the parkin without testing it. I hope your friend didn't do too much complaining about the world when you took your sewing machine to her.
Molly I hope you're feeling better now and please don't worry about whether or not you'll make your target. Your health and not fainting are much more important
supersaver Very well done for getting back into your shorts. Being able to wear things you couldn't get into before always make the effort seem so worthwhile.
dumpling I'm glad to see you back and sorry that you've been so poorly. I second Greenbee's advice not to worry about the results. There's nothing you can do until you know what you're dealing with so focus on taking the best care of yourself that you can rather than "what if"sSirens I hope that your trains don't end up too much busier and well done for cutting the hedge.
I have to confess that I didn't weigh in this week. I ate and drank too much over the weekend and am hormonal and bloated at the moment so I know it's not going to be pretty and I'm being a complete wimp and burying my head in the sand. Sorry. On the plus side, it was a really enjoyable weekend and I did manage about a 4 mile walk to my parents' house. I've done so little walking over the past couple of months that it was really nice to know that I haven't completely lost the ability to go further than the local supermarket.
Best of luck and stay safe everyone xx10 -
Good evening everyone
dumpling it’s good to hear from you, and very well done indeed on your loss. I’m sorry to hear about your health worries, and send you all best wishes.
Roundtuit isn’t it amazing how small Kondo’ed bags can go! Thank you for your kind offer to be my declutter buddy, I’m happy to reciprocate and be yours
Brambling 5am? That’s a proper lie-in! Senior Doggy woke me at 4.20It was quite warm in the garden, just getting light, and the hedgehog was still out and about.
SIRENS best wishes for your work next week, I hope it will be better than you fear.
Monnagran thank you for those kind words. I hold my hand up, 🙋 I’m the one with the cream teas! Home made real scones (so butter and sugar content controlled), French strawberry jam made with fruit juice not sugar, but real clotted cream is real clotted cream and delicious. And I enjoyed every mouthful.
Izadora I’m glad you had such an enjoyable weekend, and the walk to your parents’ home was useful. Sending hugs to you and hoping you soon feel better.
I got all my laundry done and dried ahead of the promised change in the weather. Other that that it was a bit hot for gardening, so I did some bits in the house, and had a couple of naps after my crazy early morning.
Today’s food
B : porridge
L : ham salad (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber); slice of cake
AT : cream tea (one hm scone, jam, cream, slice of cake)
D : grilled chicken leg, carrots, courgette, cabbage; the last of the strawberries and the cream
S : one mini-bar of chocolate“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️

Silly me
I got stressed about changing to a smartphone from my ancient old Nokia and anxiety levels went through the roof when the new phone arrived with the barest of instructions this afternoon. I couldn't open the sim drawer, then I couldn't make the sim fit in the space provided - how was I supposed to know there was a sim within a sim within a sim? I worked it out eventually but grrr. DS has had to bail me out twice - I couldn't even answer the darned thing when it rang - after spending hours pressing various things, it turns out you have to swipe to answer a call. And I'm supposed to know this how???
Why am I telling you this? Because the end result was pizza and chips delivered chez nous for tea. I must have consumed eleventy billion calories tonight. I'm hoping the adrenaline soaked blood cells annihilate all the fat that I've just inhaled, but I fear it will not be so.
Heyho - Rome wasn't built in a day. I'll have to up the ante for the rest of the week or it will be a pound on not off. And I still have my car to replace in the near future - and breathe!!!!

Hi roundtuit, don't beat yourself up about eating pizza and chips, it's just glorified cheese on toast
. I am the same as you and got very very anxious about smart phones when I first had one. I couldn't get the hang of swiping and was ready to throw the blessed thing across the room. With practice though I got the hang of it and now I have had three of them and even got my first iPhone earlier this year. I hope you will persevere and then really enjoy using it. Good luck my lovely x

Nice to see you back Dumpling we missed you
and well done on your loss 👏👏 hopefully all will go ok with your tests I know the waiting and not knowing is really difficult
Roundtuit if you have a young one at home use him, I have no problem in handling things like my smart phone other to my nephew to sort and remember google is your friend for looking up how to. Occasionally pizza is needed and allowed
Izadora don't apologise for not weighing in, no pressure here and I'm not organised enough to keep trackI understand the pressure of beginning of the month, for me it's not helped by working from home as between my internet and the work servers the large and complicated spreadsheets I need to update don't want to save 🥺
No furry alarm clock this morning 😁 so I poked him when I got up 🙀 he's taken to sleeping on the landing after I washed my winter dressing grown, I'm assuming it doesn't smell right 🙄 he did get his revenge by being a PITA when I tried to work today
I dropped some tomato plants around to my sister after work and we had a distanced cuppa in the garden and discussed my ideas to make some minor changes to my back garden. Unfortunately on the way back I popped into T Exp for fruit and milk and a tub of vanilla ice cream fell into my basket, I'm blaming the ice cream van who comes every day, I feel sorry for any parents, there's not many children in the close but one family have four so could work out expensive
B - fruit salad
L - gnocchi with wild garlic pesto
D - feather steak with LO stir fry rice and veg
S - jelly with berries and vanilla ice cream

Morning xx
oh dumpling - your post made me feel so much better. I was ready for throwing the blessed phone at the wall before I even had the Sim card in! But I persevered - fuelled by glorified cheese on toastand by the time I went to bed I could receive a call, make a call, receive a text, send a text, add a Gif and access fb. This morning I have learned where the volume control is and turned it down!!! And I found the emojis - oooo a unicorn, oh and a pair of underpants (seems random but may be useful at some point who knows?)
Brambling - I struggle to ask for help but I did ask DS to help with the Sim and he said 'I don't know - I've never bought one online'.Later, when I was too stressed for words, he said 'Why didn't you just ask me to help you?'
I did! You said you couldn't. Apparently he misunderstood what I was asking! All sorts of triggers were being pushed? fired/ set off? Hence the need for pizza and chips....extreme anxiety and damn near had a panic attack in the night but I remembered STOP and it worked.
Today is a new day. I feel frayed round the edges but not so pulled tight. Up early and dressed as I have to go to the pharmacy to pick up my repeat prescription. I am back on the wagon.
Gotta dash - but I am back on the wagon
