I got a call just now from someone at One Com, calling on behalf of Vodafone. She offered me a free Nokia 301 with free line rental (they credit £10.50 to my account 5 days before the direct debit comes out) as an extra line (something like 300 mins, 500 texts, 500MB). I was all for it given she seemed to have all of my account details from Vodafone. Then she asked for my bank details. I hung up. I've had calls from Vodafone offering me extra lines before and I've never had them ask for my bank details as they already have them. Has anyone ever heard of Vodafone selling extra lines to existing customers through third party resellers before? Has anyone received a similar call?
I'm not sure if hanging up was the right thing to do, but something seemed odd and I can't quite believe there's no catch. I don't really need the phone or the line, but I'd have happily kept them as a back-up for nothing.0 -
In other words, your brain informs you that it's a scam but your heart is greedy and wants to play.
Look up the "partner" on here and your heart will find its flaw.0 -
Hi guys
I also signed up for the additional phones today and assumed it was with Vodafone. Looks like I may have been duped too!
They did in all fairness ask me to state that I was an individual and not a business user.
How have you guys got on?
Cheers

Not quite. Vodafone themselves have given me silly 'extra line' offers in the past. I've generally accepted these. The operator passed herself off as being from Vodafone, had all of my account details and I assumed this was all business as usual until she asked me to 'confirm my bank account details'. At this moment I paused, asked her why Vodafone needed to 'confirm' my bank details when they already have them, at which point she told me she was from Vodafone's Platinum Partner, One Com, selling the extra line on Vodafone's behalf. That is when I hung up, as suddenly I wasn't too sure what I was about to agree to.
Reading around, it would seem that they were offering me a free phone with free line rental in order to transfer my account (3 lines, mobile broadband) from Vodafone to themselves. That was the catch.
Interesting scam. Think I'll be phoning them back and asking them to remove my details from their system, and then ringing Vodafone to request that they don't hand out my details again.0 -

Hi Lee
Do you have any update?I've noticed that these two numbers they added on my account hasn't been cancelled because I received a bill today.I returned the handsets to onecom a week ago following speaking to them on the phone about my cancellation.Vodafone also promised me that they'll look into this at it seems like no one has done anything to help me sort this out.Now I'll be paying for nothing because even those handsets are back to onecom.0 -
