Happy to report monies were refunded in full back to credit card yesterday. So couple of days for us, from receiving email confirming refund to actually receiving it. So case closed for us. Good luck to everyone else waiting for refunds.
  • I wrote earlier that I applied on March 22nd and then was told I needed to re-apply on April 8 (for no apparent reason other than that they were giving me a second chance to take a voucher instead!). I've communicated with Norwegian and they've confirmed that they are refunding in the order of application and that they are working off my April 8 application. Consequently I'm probably a few weeks off from receiving my refund. This is incredibly frustrating. Has anyone else been asked to apply a second time?
  • Hi there,
We were due to fly to the states on 31 July  2020 with Norwegian Air. They have not cancelled and we were offered a voucher. We were not offered a refund over the phone. We therefore accepted. We have decided its not safe to go to states at the moment and so would like to get a refund, however flight not cancelled. Any advice please? I communicated with their team on twitter and they have said as we accepted voucher, we have waived our rights for a refund. Any advice gratefully received.

As the flight hadn't been cancelled as you accepted a voucher, then It might be a battle to get a cash refund.

I can see an argument that can be made,  I believe (but like it confirmed)  that NA have or will cancel all flights to the USA this year.
If that is the case, you could say that your voucher is worthless to you, as it can not be used for the purpose you need, and that you would never have accepted a voucher if you knew this at the time.

  • Hi, can anyone tell me how far in advance Norwegian Air have been cancelling flights from Gatwick to New York? Holding out for a cancellation as I want a refund not cash points. Also, my return flight is a month later than the outgoing so do I have to wait for them to cancel the return flight too or will they refund that if the outbound is cancelled? Thanks for any guidance 😊

They cancelled my 18th April outbound flight about 4 weeks in advance. At that point I put in a refund claim for both the outbound and inbound flight and was given all my money back.

Hi. We are due to fly with Norwegian on 11 July from London to Bergen. This was the outbound flight for the beginning of a 5 weeks trip through Scandanavia. We booked on 23 Feb along with other transfers / hotel stays, but had the majority of remaining accomodation, transfers and flights to book when COVID-19 started flaring up in early March. We have travel insurance in place which was taken out in February with disruption cover.

I can see the offer from Norwegan of cash points and I am considering taking this up as I am concerned that the foreign office will relax restrictions on non-essential travel just before the 11th July and we will have outbound flights but the majority of the rest of our planned trip won't be booked, and won't be able to claim on our insurance.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how best to approach this?

These are the current conditions for converting your flight to cashpoints for future use next year, if all else fails and the flight goes ahead you appear to have up to 6 hours before flying to cancel and convert - although i personally would be doing that 12 hours out at the latest.

    "Conditions

    • This is a limited offer due to COVID-19 and is only valid for LowFare, LowFare+ and Premium tickets (excl. bookings for domestic flights within Norway only) booked directly with Norwegian up to and including 15 June 2020.
    • Conditions are subject to change and conditions published at the time you submit your claim will apply
    • The outbound flight for the original booking must depart before 21 August 2020.
    • The entire booking must be cancelled more than 6 hours before scheduled departure time.
    • The value of the ticket will be provided as travel credit in CashPoints (1 Norwegian Krone = 1 CashPoint).
    • CashPoints can be used as credit towards Norwegian bookings.
    • CashPoints are valid for redemption up to and including 31 December 2021 for travel (including return flight) up to and including 31 October 2022.
    • CashPoints will be issued to one Norwegian Reward account per booking.
    • CashPoints will be issued to the person who made the booking via their Norwegian Reward account.
    • If you did not add a Norwegian Reward account at the time of booking or you do not have a Norwegian Reward account, you will be asked to provide this information or sign up after you have submitted your claim."

I guess my concern was that if the foreign office relaxes non-essential travel guidelines ahead of 11 July, that some of these accomodative policies that allow rebooking or taking a voucher might be withdrawn. In the above they have confirmed their policy up to 15 June, suggesting they are taking this a week at a time.
