Covid-19 Isolation Support Thread

I just spoke to my daughter on the phone and we agreed that I am strangely suited to this time. Not only do I keep a good storecupboard in, I actually like being on my own. The one or two clubs I did attend have cancelled for now but I don't feel their loss. I have more than enough to keep me busy - books/craft/garden/puzzles - and so far haven't really noticed much difference to my "normal" life. I did hear on the tv last night that they are looking to put on programmes to help those isolating keep fit. It reminded me of Eleen Fowler who used to be on the tv when I was a child.needmoney said:How many of us are in isolation alone and what are you doing to keep your mind off it/occupied etc. I used to get out most days just for a small shop or short walk to keep joints moving or just get some fresh air. NEEDMONEY I'm in isolation alone too. (70+ and underlying probs) I lost my DH 15 months ago and miss him more than ever.coping alone with this. It's not much fun isolating on your own is it?. I must have known what was ahead of us though as I adopted a little cat from a Cat Rescue end of January and I think she will be my saviour and stop me talking to the four walls! She's a little sweetheart and I love her to bits. My DS and DD live quite near so are able to drop off anything I need but it's not the same shouting down the garden to them. I'd rather they were inside with me having a cuppa and a natter. I've always looked after my 3 DGDs and now obviously I can't do that and miss them so much already. This is day 4 and it feels like week 4! But we will get through this (hopefully!) and today, instead of watching every news item on tv and getting more and more depressed by them, I am rationing myself to just the Boris broadcast at tea-time.for the daily updates. I am hoping once the weather warms up just sitting in the back (quite secluded) garden reading will brighten my day up. This will pass, as they say, just not quick enough!
Editing to add DREAMING I remember Eileen Fowler! On BBC Breakfast this morning they said they were going to have Diana Moran (The Green Goddess) on 3 times a week showing us oldies what exercises we could do. She's 80 now and looks as fit and slim as ever she did!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"8 -
Have you got a corner shop near you ours has been fully stocked with most things and definitely had paracetamolMiró said:I got up early today to take advantage of Iceland's, first 2 hrs of Wednesday for 'at risk' people. What a waste of time....all of these shelves were completely empty:- bread, milk, LLmilk, pasta, pasta sauces, anything at all with the word 'antibacterial' on it, disinfectant, loo rolls, kitchen roll, baby wipes, paracetomol. I had a look in Sainsbury's too and they were similarly stocked, (or unstocked!!). Also tried Superdrug & Boots for paracetamol but they were also out of stock - it's the only painkiller I can take too. I haven't been panic buying or stockpiling anything, (stupid me!), and now cannot get a delivery slot with any supermarket for under 3 weeks time. I guess it's gonna be black coffee and crackers and a headache for a few weeks

I usually spend a lot of time alone too but when you're forced to it feels different. I'm missing that little daily outing, am tempted to go for a walk but not sure, not even sure to just go for a short drive. Thanks for replies I just wondered how many of us here were without partners or family living in the house. Oddly enough I also have not been hungry could be too much adrenalin but going to make myself make some soup today as my family are wonderful and have shopped for me.
Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

I am not in isolation, but am pretty much doing it other than very essential stuff I have to do. Live alone, other half is at his house and will probably stay their . I have been in the house for the last two days and it has felt like a month already.needmoney said:How many of us are in isolation alone and what are you doing to keep your mind off it/occupied etc. I used to get out most days just for a small shop or short walk to keep joints moving or just get some fresh air. I haven’t done anything as yet. I am over anxious about it, so need to ride that out first . Watching tv, laying games on IPad, on MSE lots. I am on holiday this week but back to work next week. If I had to isolate, but wasn’t feeling ill, I think I would set up a bit of a list of things to do. I will be basically isolating when not at work ( I work 4 on 4 off), and plan to do list of things to do when my head is in a better place.Being alone all the time will irritate me fairly quickly I think. I will certainly miss going out for meals, and walking on the beach. I am not used to being stuck in the house. I will go out for drives probably.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.7 -
I've never been one for going out much anyway. I hate shopping (all sorts) and am more than happy just pottering round at home. Even before this I would often go out just once a week to a craft club. If I had shopping to do I would do it on the same day so I didn't have to go out again that week. I have always been pretty much a loner, even as a child although I had 2 older siblings. I often used to play under the dining table hidden by the tablecloth with just my dollies etc. The best thing though was when I learned to read and I could lose myself for hours in a book. - still do.11

I tried two small local shops this morning with no luck. Wouldn't you know it.....I pulled a muscle in my back last night getting some cheese out of the fridge too!!! Had a rummage in my travel medical kit and found half a pack tho. I heard on R4 this morning that stocks are expected to be back in the shops within 4-5 days. Whilst rummaging I found a supply of that anti-mozzie medication that Trump thinks is gonna save us all from the coronavirus, (chloroquine)Onebrokelady said:

I'm still going out for walks but avoiding other people. I have two nice parks I can reach on foot to try and do my 10,000 steps each day and I will continue to do this til someone says to stop. I'm still doing the odd bit of necessary shopping, (carefully), as nobody has offered any help with this. I haven't stockpiled or hoarded anything and I'm certainly not prepared to starve to death! I listen to Boris each day for info on the UK and listen to Trump each day for the laughs, (despite the seriousness of things he always obliges without knowing)9 -
Wonder if tonic water would do the same thing? I do have some, along with some rhubarb vodkaMiró said:Whilst rummaging I found a supply of that anti-mozzie medication that Trump thinks is gonna save us all from the coronavirus, (chloroquine)

I have tonic but no vodka. But i do have Mermaid Gin from the Isle of Wight Distillary if we think that would work!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"7
