C_J : Thanks for the laugh about supermarket restrictions - brilliant !
Needmoney : There's no reason why you can't go out for a walk, that's what we're doing - at least half an hour a day round the local streets.
Someone mentioned washing stuff with soap, that's what we're doing too - everything that comes through the door - mail and parcels (fromAmazon, we ordered some dried foods) and online shopping but not the newspaper (messy).
Soapy water ought to be fine if it's good enough for hands, but we then leave everything for at least 24 hours as well.5 -
Miró said:Just listened to Boris announcing the closure of pubs, clubs, restaurants etc. can't help but feel all shops apart from food and chemists will be next. Also, where the heck is the government getting all this money from all of a sudden....they couldn't find it for the NHS before. Has Rishi got a secret money tree in his garden?"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

As far as I have experienced the phone has come into its own. I have had long chats in the last couple of days with friends who usually communicate by e-mail. I think having a chat with a friend keeps depression at bay, and elderly neighbours are very appreciative of a quick phone call. If its the nearest thing we gain get to human contact then let's use it lavishly.
I have been impressed with how people are really trying to be careful when they go out. Even in our little quiet village shop people were giving each other plenty of space this morning. Not the same in T*sc*s yesterday, sadly.I believe that friends are quiet angels

'Oddly enough I'm less isolated now than I've ever been. I've had to make myself invisible online to certain folk as they pop up whenever I am desperately trying to find seeds and supplies etc and seem to think I want a lengthy chat - which I don't at that point as I am focussed on getting sorted. Plus my trusty old mobile has been red hot with folks who want to have a text conversation. I don't normally do mobiles and I find texting hard work. Then there's the odd dog walker I meet in the village and they all want to stand there and pontificate (at a distance) in the freezing cold while my fingers are turning grey with Raynauds. Isolation? What isolation? My favourite neighbour is the one who simply says 'Let me know if you need anything' and who leaves it at that.7

I've just come up against the government's direction to shops to limit customers to 3 of an item.
I wanted 4 Bramley apples but could only have 3. If I'd wanted Golden delicious I could have had 12 because they are in packs of 4 but Bramleys are sold individually.

How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)4 -
Spending a long week-end in a small village in North Yorks with a friend. Both fit and well and have been self isolating for the last week or so and being very careful now. Must say I am very shocked at how different life is here from life on the edge of a large city at the mo. Had to do a supermarket shop yesterday as no deliveries here and the supermarket appeared to be fully stocked, (the drinks aisles had beed decimated tho but were being re- stocked), unlike where I live. But it’s the behaviour of the locals that has really shocked me....people still popping in and out of each others houses, dog walkers chatting in groups, unrelated children playing together, all seemingly unconcerned about the current situation. I asked if any support groups had been organised to help the elderly and vulnerable but no! All very worrying.5
