Doesn't make sense. I suppose it could depend on whether his job is important To keeping the infrastructure goingMummy2cheekymonkeys said:I'm seething this morning. The council website have put up an announcement echoing that of the prime minister stating that people should start social distancing and work from home if it is possible to do so. I show this to me husband who checks his emails. They have all been sent a communication from the chief exec of the council (this guy gets paid more then the prime minister apparently) his email states that they should "follow their usual working patterns" ie business as usual, get in the office. Am I crazy for getting angry at this?!?!?! So basically the council is advising people to work from home where possible but apparently this does not apply to their own employees!5 -
I could understand if that was the reason but he works in the pension department!hollydays said:

I'm not sure anything anyone says makes sense.Boris is telling us to avoid pubs and restaurants.Dr Hillary on Lorraine this morning has said it's OK to go to a restaurant if it's quiet.@ Mummy2cheekymonkeysCan your OH actually work from home?7

Yes he has a laptop and works from home every Thursday when I go to work. They announced after Christmas that they were making it more flexible for people to work from home and they have had a system were half the office works from home one week and then the other half work from home on the other week to see how people get on so its not a new thing for them.

I will comply we have cancelled our mothers day meal as DD1 is a hospital social worker and DD2 is a nurse at Guys in London so rather than put others at risk we will stay away I don't understand why anyone would want to chance catching or spreading thisSlava Ukraini6

I will of course comply with cutting down unnecessary trips out (looking at going out for essentials once a week) and the 14 day household quarantine if someone has symptoms.
I won't comply with the expected advice to stay at home for 3 months if you're vunerable- age, pregnancy or qualify for the flu jab, I'm the latter. All but two of us in the family which is on the smaller side have the flu jab. Some more vunerable than others.
The two that don't have young children (I doubt schools will be open for long) or a job where they can't hardly leave the premises for the next 6-8 weeks (unfortunately the lambs will come when ready not when convenient).
We can be sensible when safe to support each other,
observe the household 2 week quarantine if needed,
cut out all unnecessary social contact and trips out, or lock ourselves away for 3 months at the mercy of overstretched commercial delivery, friends (who have families of their own) or community volunteers (who should be helping those genuinely alone) hoping medication and food will arrive in time.
In any case the most vunerable (Nan at 92) wouldn't be able to lift and carry in shopping left outside
so in that respect she needs care as the most vunerable and we need to provide it (when safe to do so) despite being classed as vunerable ourselves.4 -

So basically the council is advising people to work from home where possible but apparently this does not apply to their own employees!Just a bit confused here.Who in the council has put up the notice about working from home on the website? Is this specifically for council workers or for the general public? Our county council has a note on their website that links to the
Guidance
Stay at home: guidance for households with possible coronavirus (COVID-19) infection
As you can see, it doesn't mention Boris's latest advice to avoid pubs etc.and work from home.Is your council saying something different to the general public?Mummy2cheekymonkeys said:Yes he has a laptop and works from home every Thursday when I go to work. https://www.essex.gov.uk/
This is the county council website. They have a "latest coronavirus information" link that says The Government is recommending increased social distancing – so where businesses and individuals can work from home, they should. Unnecessary travel should stop. People should reduce social contacts in general and avoid confined spaces such as pubs, restaurants, cinemas.
My husband and his collegues all received an email from the chief exec of Essex county council that said that unless you were unwell or fell into one of the vulnerable categories that your "normal working pattern should be observed"

I'd be continuing with my normal working pattern (hours) from home.
