I phone the next day, sorry we are not installing meters during Covid. I said hello my smart meter was installed June 1st and stopped working 3 days after.
If you have the same problem as the others in this thread, the smart meter itself is working just fine as per the E.ON rep's post at the start of this thread...

... and switching away isn't likely to get it fixed, and certainly will not get you an old style meter installed.

If you read his reply earlier today ,you will see that EON are not getting any readings ,as they are asking for manual readings.

I read the reply, but as per the start of this thread, if the problem is simply the IHD not connecting, it is not affecting the collection of meter readings, so either he has a different problem and should start his own thread, or the telephone advice is wrong, which would not be the first time a phone rep didn't totally grasp the issue...

Leukybear -  Is the actual Smart meter itself - the one in your garage or an outside meter box working and sending readings back ? Look for a flashing red light.

If so there's no problem and you will get actual bills.  Have a look on the online account.

Put the IHD toy in the back of a drawer like most people do after the novelty has worn off.
The meter isn't sending any readings whatsoever, eon can't even communicate with it. So they said to send manual readings.

i have given up and it’s so frustrating, I’ll now be getting estimated bills because I won’t send meter readings unless my old manual meter gets installed. Also, I’ll be leaving eon at the end of contract, extremely shocking level of service!
I'm no fan of smart meters but I don't get what point you think you're making by refusing to submit readings?  You're just creating inconvenience for yourself.  Your old meter is somewhere in a skip; you're not going to see that again, so ranting about having it back is futile.  The smart meter is still a meter, which is what's needed to measure your consumption. People with non-smart meters have to push buttons to take readings,  people with smart meters have to push buttons to take readings. So what's the difference?
I don't expect them to put my same meter back but a new manual meter. i don't want a smart meter that doesn't do the job it's intended for i my point.  I don'\t mind paying whatever they charge, i'll get my actually usage money back one way or the other, so they could charge whatever they like. i have tried to resolve this and every person i have spoken to keeps giving me run around stories basically saying shut up, you have a meter, don't contact us because we really don't care.

Not just the IHD isn't working, the meter itself is not sending readings and EON can't speak to it either. Yet they still thinks that it will magically start working in a few weeks.....It was meant to be sending readings daily too. I understand your point if it was a regular meter i would still have to submit readings, the point i'm making is...why have something that doesn't do it's intended job? It's like buying a TV but the screen doesn't work but don't worry at least it plays sound okay; so i should be happy.

A smart meter is fundamentally a manual meter with a comms module. So you want them to remove a meter which is measuring consumption ok and on which you have to press buttons to take readings with another which will also measure consumption and on which you can press buttons to take readings? That is petty and I can see why the supplier will ignore your request.

You TV analogy is flawed. If you insist on it, it's equivalent to a TV that the BBC gave you for free to watch TV, that receives TV perfectly but on which the connected apps don't work.

You are not wanting to understand the issue...my final request was to want my old meter manual meter back...i only got a gave in to have a smart meter to avoid the need to send monthly meter readings. This is the only reason, if it's not going to do that, then i'm well within my rights to request my old meter back, so i could continue doing what i was doing.  As i said what's the point in having a !!!!!! smart meter that's not doing it's job? and having eon telling you tough, it's what it is, you have a smart meter, just send us manual readings, one day it may work again...

You can try say whatever you want, the level of service i received with everyone telling you something different is outrageous. The meter is still communicating even if the IHD isn't working, - FALSE
We will get a new smart meter installed, will call the next day - Lied
It will start working in a weeks time, that's normal when it's installed to be slightly unstable in the first week - Day 42, still don't work.
To have a normal credit meter re-installed- it will cost you money and we will have to re-run the credit checks but it's not a problem at all..as it's after 5pm, could you ring tomorrow as that department will be open...okay, phoned at 10am, sorry he not installing meters during COVID. Umm, you installed the smart meter during covid? did we? oh umm, i am sorry but we can't do anything, i'll just log a complaint for you.

I think as you could see the goal is just pushing out the government smart meter, if it works great, if not tough.......

As you said, i should just use my smart meter and submit manual readings...the end!

That's fine, if that is the case then I understand your frustration, but you are in the wrong thread...
This one was about IHD communication problems, you seem to have a generally faulty communications module at the very least.

I noticed that my Eon IHD wasn't receiving gas details yesterday. Then I realised that the electricity display wasn't updating . I restarted the IHD and now I am in the can't connect/restart loop. I've tried all the things mentioned here without success. I just it's just a case of wait and see?

It's a real shame as I actively keep an eye on the IHD to monitor my current electricity usage. Let's hope my readings reach Eon. I won't know for a while.

Nothing to stop you reading the meters on the wall and sending them to E.On !

I know that, but that's not really the point is it?!
