I must admit to being concerned about the way things have escalated so much recently with DGS1 & did also wonder too if there was another cause or what was making things so much worse.

I am going to put a totally weird off the wall question here but  -  are you sure DGS1 does not have something medically wrong in his head & is actually in pain.  I've known people with a lot of head pain bash their heads against a wall.  Please ensure they rule this out.  He does seem from what I've read (I know I may have misunderstood) that he seems to be getting worse.  This could mean any pain is getting worse.  The problem with being assessed as something being wrong is the assumption that that is the only thing that is wrong & ignoring anything else that may be going on.  This is always a problem with "classifying" someone.  Although having said that I have a friend whose younger child used to run from the front door to the back sliding patio doors & back constantly, eventually he took the patio doors out of their tracking, he felt no pain.  I am not going to say when this started as I will probably land up PPRed.

That's a very very good point, especially as this is a very troubled little boy who might struggle to express how he is feeling so it is coming out in a different way.

People with learning disabilities or cognitive impairments often do use behaviours rather than words to express physical pain.

Good points, I suspect it's yet another change in routine that has set off DGS1 . He seems to have a bad phase whenever his routine is upset which is a regular part of being on the spectrum as I believe is suspected. I really hope he will settle and adapt after a day or two so everyone can enjoy the break.

At the end of the day only a Paediatrician can diagnose autism / learning difficulties not the nursery/school etc but a diagnosis would be useful for an ECHP and might also open up additional funding in the form of DLA.

Of course a proper diagnosis would be really good.  What worries me is that it may stop there & there may (only may obviously) be something else going on.
