I love the idea of greent swishing her cape in the aisles invigilating with squeaky shoes or maybe, later, stockinged feet.

lol! - my squeaky shoes are purple, so they'd be a fab match for my cloak :) Although I suspect swishing would result in exam papers flying off desks and therefore unhappy students!! :rotfl:

Just want to say I am celebrating one year on this forum and am thankful for everything I have read and learned form the different threads. Unfortunately I am still a spender at heart and somebody who might treat myself or my friends so I still have a long way to go.

I really don't know how to organise my bank accounts - I want a groceries/spending account separate from my direct debits, am thinking about getting a revolut . card - any ideas? Because I can see all my savings accounts in my current account - I think I can spend the money! I need a system where the money in my emergency fund is just gone - hidden so I don't get any ideas ... any ideas ...

Am thankful for lovely landlady, lovely friends and lovely children who are so much more settled and relaxed after a few weeks together.

Question everything.
Your habits/routines - less junk food, get up earlier to get things done, try and do a little tidying/housekeeping each day (i.e. stop letting ironing become a mountain of ironing)
Reactions - learn to stop reacting to certain events (mainly OH's ex being a c*w) so aggressively :rotfl:
Plans - make more of them and stop being such a hermit :D

Ugly, unloved or unused I plan to tackle the kitchen, living room and our bedroom over the coming weeks. If it's any of the above, it's gone!!!

Exercise your mind and body. We don’t have to do it; we get to do it.
I love that, so much. Working on doing mini bits each day, hospital triage assessment on Monday for a two-year long injury, please cross everything :D xx

Savings. Where can you save? Money. Time. Stress and anxiety. Waste. Plastic.
I have many plans for the financial savings (pots, challenges, etc), plastic and waste are two I shall look into this month.

Thankfulness.
Today I am thankful for family and friends :heart2:

The non-negotiables:
16 NSDS minimum. Aiming for 20, 1/20 so far
Budget. Everything. Food. Travel. Socialising. Hobbies. Bills. Savings. School/work stuff. Birthdays. IN ADVANCE. done :)
Post at least three gratitudes daily please. Family, friends & coffee
Give. Money, time, food. Will donate £20 to charity mid-month (resolution to do this every month) and will pop some bits in the food bank trolley with food shop on Saturday :)

ditty have you tried just opening various savings accounts? That's what I do, must have about 7 altogether so I rename them all with whatever it is I'm saving for. A lot of my friends swear by Monzo (similar to Revolut) but for me I need to physically move my money or I'll just spend it.

Question everything.
Your habits/routines - started eating less carbs and more veg with dinner in December and am trying to hit 100g of protein each day. Basically want to build a bit more muscle so will see if it pays off. I also want to read more and spend less time on social media, restricting social media use to weekends. No other new habits I can think of but want to continue with my current ones - not buying unnecessarily, prepping for work as soon as I get in.
Reactions - learn to stop letting other's moods affect me. I also want to do a mental health first aid course at work so I can be more aware of other's issues and support them.
Plans - I saw an article today about the 10 most peaceful places in London and decided I want to visit them all this year. Also plan to save money as want to replace my car, and potentially do a CPD course but we'll have to wait and see about that one.

Ugly, unloved or unused I'll have to have a hunt around I had a huge clear out last year and haven't really accumulated much more but I'm sure there's stuff that can go.

Exercise your mind and body. We don’t have to do it; we get to do it.
I want to exercise 4 times a week, either at the gym, at home, yoga, horse riding or walking. Am off to the gym soon.

Savings. Where can you save? Money. Time. Stress and anxiety. Waste. Plastic.
Always looking to reduce plastic waste wherever I can. Hate food waste too. Savings targets are minimum £300 per month, managed £350 this month.

Thankfulness.
Today I am thankful for completing an outstanding piece of work, for traffic being good both to and from work, and for finishing early.

The non-negotiables:
16 NSDS minimum. Aiming for 18, haven't managed one yet, bought some flights today for a trip I've booked. Paid for from savings but still counted as a spend.
Budget. Everything. Food. Travel. Socialising. Hobbies. Bills. Savings. School/work stuff. Birthdays. IN ADVANCE. done :)
Post at least three gratitudes daily please. donr
Give. Money, time, food. Will donate £10 to a different charity as per my resolutions.

Question everything. Yep, every single thing. Your habits, routines, reactions, plans... But not so much that your head explodes… I have decided to do dry January. I am not a big drinker by any means, but have got into the habit of having a (very small) glass of wine most evenings. This will stop.
Ugly, unloved or unused = it goes out of your house to be beautiful, loved and used elsewhere. I have started to sort out some things to give to charity :) So far I have a small food processor, the kind ideal for baby food, and a hanging planter thing that has never been used.
Exercise your mind and body. We don’t have to do it; we get to do it. More walking needed. Was doing well, but have felt a bit off for the last couple of days. Fighting off a lurgy I think.
Savings (not sales, as I presume you have side-stepped around them unless you had planned and budgeted for something). Where can you save? Money. Time. Stress and anxiety. Waste. Plastic. Definitely plastic. I bought some stretchy reusable bowl covers before Christmas, and using them avoids cling film :) In the long run, this will also save money, as they are robust and look as though they could go on for years. I will look to see what other plastic I can avoid - so annoying that groceries from the supermarket are swathed in layers of it!
Thankfulness. Let's look at what we have and be grateful for it.

The non-negotiables:
• The quest runs through all of January. There are other challenges out there for the year ahead, this is simply a focus for January.
• 16 NSDS minimum. You can keep an NSD if you ONLY buy reduced items, fuel or medical items, or if it’s a random payment that you cannot plan for (but you CAN set the money aside) or weekly activities that have to be paid in cash (again, set the money aside in an envelope at the start of the month) I tend to count all spends except for the regular direct debits for bills. Still on NSD 1. Spendy day today as I bought some half price Christmas cards to put away for next Christmas, a birthday card for DD, a loaf of bread and a birthday present for a friend whom we are seeing tomorrow. At least I won't have to post it!
• Budget. Everything. Food. Travel. Socialising. Hobbies. Bills. Savings. School/work stuff. Birthdays. IN ADVANCE. Budgets are done, though I am struggling with my spreadsheet this year.
• Post at least three gratitudes daily please. We like to hear what you are thankful for.
• Give. Money, time, food. There are others out there who need you! And look after yourself too. I donate monthly to the local food bank. And as noted earlier, I am sorting out items to donate to local charity shops.
Today I am thankful for:
A warm, dry house
My lovely family
The dog, who makes me laugh :)

I'd be careful of using an app only bank like Revolut. Whilst I use Revolut and Starling, I'd suggest staying away from them if you need to withdraw cash. Whilst they are good for easy transfers, they say that free cash withdrawals are available but the ATM networks will charge you instead.

Today will be NSD number 1 too!

My daily thanks:

1) A supportive SWMBO
2) Dedication to this Quest
3) A steady income.

Most DIY problems can be solved by a combination of spanner, pliers, screwdriver, Allan key and a blade. (Hold it, twist it, cut it!) Very occasionally industrial language, a hammer and an adhesive may need to be added to the mix. (Curse it, hit it, patch it!)
• Evening all, first NSD clocked up today. Planning for another one tomorrow, no plans other than work.

Grateful today for: feeling positive at work, running a 5k at a decent (for me) pace, staying calm......

Today I am grateful for getting to watch wsm (recorded) finals this morning before anyone else was up, for a relaxing day, for working with dd on her project, for my 'be-prepared-to-be-here-for-3-hours' hosp visit lasting just 50 minutes, for taking down the cmas cards and making tags for next year, for big sis + niece staying for a couple of nights, for the satisfaction of clearing up a bit.

Ditty - could you just have 2 accounts - one where your dds come out of and another one for spending? Back in the day where there was no online banking and bills were quarterly, I'd bought my first house and mynsister suggested having a separate bank account where I had a dd for £x each month, which then covered the quarterly bills. Or you could have 3, with the 3rd one being your savings/emergency/roof-replacement fund.

Evening turtle friends...

Pleased to report Day 2 of Dry January and my second NSD too...so far, so good!

Question everything...I'm looking at new recipes and baking ideas as I feel I've got stuck in a bit of a rut with my "old faithfuls". Also, I'm getting my boys involved in choosing, preparing and cooking food at least once a week each. My husband was never taught cookery skills (I don't count burning stuff on a BBQ) and I'd like my boys to be able to fend for themselves rather than resort to junk food through lack of knowledge. Tonight Tiny and I made ginger beef with basmati rice. It was delicious and the smile on my 5 year old's face at the praise from his Dad and brother was heartwarming. He was very proud.

Ugly, unloved or unused = recycled about 60 empty gin bottles I'd been saving. Won't be able to look at the bin men for a while...

Exercise your mind and body = I got a FitBit for Christmas and am logging my steps each day. Annoyingly, Small (who got a kid's version for Christmas) is currently doing twice my total. Must try harder...

Savings = my savings are minimal, so I'm hoping to change that this year, but I also want to save us pennies by growing our own fruit and veg, so I'm planning where I can lay out a plot in the paddock and will enlist the help of hubby in making raised beds and fencing. I'm really excited about this!

Thankfulness = today I'm thankful for friends who don't care if I haven't brushed my hair, for chopped firewood to keep our woodburner roaring and for my new baking tin, in which I plan to create chocolate brownies tomorrow :D
