NST January 2020: A Turtle Quest

Good evening from Turtle 31!
Question everything.
Habits:
- Frugality. Just because I can afford it, doesn't mean I should get it. This especially applies to kitchenware.
- I am thankful that I have built up an excellent collection of whisky over the years. However it does not need to expand further.
- Be more careful of alcohol intake. Just because it's in the house doesn't mean I should drink it. A £1 Booze Bounty is to be paid towards my savings deficit for every alcoholic drink I consume, whether purchased in a pub or poured at home.
Routines:
- Must plan meals according to what appears in the veg box, rather than winging it and finding that I have mouldy produce.
- Aim to consistently get up between 6:30-7:00am each day.
Must not be pulled into mind games at work which have been stressful and distracting
Plans:
- Order present for Dad's birthday and include it in my budgeting. Do not spend over £25 including delivery.
Unloved or unused:
- Continue the Purge. If it's getting ratty then replace only if the item is truly needed. Otherwise just ditch.
Exercise your mind and body.
- Continue cycling to work.
- Look into possible brain training regimens. I will be doing at least a sudoku a day until I find a more concrete method to improve my mental capabilities.
Savings:
Money: Will aim for 16 NSDs, although I hope to get to 20. Also hope to maximise repayments to my savings deficit.
Time: Avoid playing on my phone when there is little to do at work. Make an effort to find things to do rather than slacking.
Stress: Exercise more patience around Little Turtle. It's a joy watching her grow and I should remain calm, even when hunting for a dummy at 5am.
Thankfulness.
Grateful for:
- My Little Turtle
- A loving family to love in return
- A new year to try and improve myself for those around me.Mortgage free by 33 - (21/07/22 - 32 years and a bit...)
Most DIY problems can be solved by a combination of spanner, pliers, screwdriver, Allan key and a blade. (Hold it, twist it, cut it!) Very occasionally industrial language, a hammer and an adhesive may need to be added to the mix. (Curse it, hit it, patch it!)0 -
Well l think it’s best l own up to the fact l didn’t manage to retire in 2019 due to a change in circumstances but all is not doom and gloom as a comprise l have dropped to 3 mornings a week. This means 2020 will be make or break re retiring at 55.l intend to be more accountable for my spending and save the pennies and the pounds. I know l can do it but need to be in the right frame of mind for both frugality and losing weight both will be addressed this year.Count down to retirement 20230

Hi
Happy new year turtles
Number 19 checking in.
Today I have spent but it was planned. We needed toys and treats for DS2s rescue doggie. She’s gorgeous and is only just learning about dog toys. She’s not destructive but with her previous family think she’s been ignored and not given things to play with. At first she just collected her toys in a pile and it’s only after a couple of months she’s started to play with them. DS2 has been bringing her toys with her when she visits but she needs her own here.
Tomorrow will also be a spend as it’s SW. I had made it to target but a holiday in November and then Xmas has meant I really need to get back in my weight bubble.
But I’m determined and tomorrow’s meals will be from stores.
Q I’m questioning every spend, every meal, stretching everything as far as possible
U We haven’t anything useless because as we moved back in after our renovations we were ruthless. The CS has had 6 bags of goodies from us and OH has a box of things to list.
E
S I made a soup from the leftover Xmas veggies which did 2 really filling meals. More of these sort of meals will be made over the next month.
T Thankfulness I’m thankful for doggie cuddles, for the last glass of the Xmas wine and for a lovely lazy snooze this afternoon.
I’m feeling really good and positive about the new year and I hope you guys are too
Bye for now
Cuddles

Evening all...
We are all off to positive starts, whether we be cheerleading or questing this month.
Thank you F0xh0les and Dolly84 for your comments too... I'm thinking Phoenix will be a good one... As Jean Grey, she had telepathic powers and could move objects... for me that's being able to achieve anything if I put my mind to it... In her Phoenix aspect she was bad !!!... for me I like the whole 'rising from the ashes' story of the Phoenix... i will not be defeated... and even when I am laid low, the phoenix emerges again to burn bright and blast away any opposition.
As to being positive... it is something I am really trying hard to work towards this year. This thread helps me *a lot* and I will try and post my gratitudes here daily.
Today I am grateful for:
1) My supportive family, and how we have grown closer through adversity these last 2 years with my parents' health declining.
2) For my beautiful, funny, kind Mum and my Dad - who though I clashed with him growing up... has mellowed, and grown on me!
3) For my sister who is kind and caring, and gives so much to others, and for her wit and humour and growing friendship. And for my brother who is a big softie at heart, and who has long been my mate and fellow nerd.
I'll do my extended family at home haha!!!

Started to formulate plans. Lots of food here but I have a money off voucher and toilet rolls are very low so may stock up on those, tinned fruit, pasta and some things from the world foods section (depends if there are any delivery slots available when I get round to it).
Travel costs will be up due to the number of hospital appointments.
Today I am grateful for lovely food (lamb dinner with lots of veg but only cheese and crackers, sticks and dips for tea), for new notebooks and diaries (slim desk diary to track sleep, spending, food intake, exercise, activities and mood, smaller one to go in my bag and a new notebook big enough for budgetting and other plans) and completing a jigsaw which will now go back to a cs.My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
Hi I really haven't made any firm plans or set any goals yet for this year, was too lazy on the couch.
Did go for a run though. Make smoothies and apple muffins. And not buy any food.
Question everything. Why do I keep looking at SM I have rel friends and nobody really posts anything anymore. Habit one to question. That is the time I need to read and draw.
Ugly, unloved or unused: I have a whole garage to sort out!
Exercise your mind and body. More targeted core and swimming and slightly less running.
Savings: No sales this year. I don't actually need any clothes, I do need some kitchen stuff - but am on food only at the moment.

I love the idea of greent swishing her cape in the aisles invigilating with squeaky shoes or maybe, later, stockinged feet.
Yesterday was indeed NSD1. All the bills went out this morning (phew!). Want to move money around but will be submitting bank statements this week to remortgage, so have to keep as much money in my account as poss. Good job the pantry is stacked.
Off volunteering later. Just cleaning house and doing that. Nothing else planned for today, so it should be cheap.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

raphael - I've never tried hemp milk, I will have a look for it. My favourite plant milk is oat milk but I've never had it in hot drinks but I do make hot chocolate with it using cocoa powder or cocao powder.
Plan for today. Walk the dog, collect a reserved library book, call at the greengrocers, clean the bathroom, make energy balls and a tea loaf.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler
