I went to my first parkrun of the year and walked to it and back home again. It was my slowest yet, because it is very windy today and I have hurt my ankle and wanted to go gently. I am grateful for having done over 15000 steps before 11.00 today.
I am grateful as well for lovely berry tea and our cat cuddled up beside me.

:T:T:T Well done on those steps! :T:T:T

I'm thinking that this is either spiders + their webs, or that part of the ceiling fell down...

    Good evening!!!

Congrats to Mothernerd on your clearing out and charity donations... You've really thrown yourself into this month's challenge. Also hoping the drains get sorted... it's kind of symbolic... in that you are clearing so much and unclogging your space... once the drains (and the house) is cleared things will be much clearer!!!

Thanks Apple for the info on bodyrock... I'm already tired after reading about sandbags and skipping ropes!!! I may check out those sites ;)

Couldn't bring myself to ask Dad to pay for coffee so alas not a NSD here again, and had to go into next week's budget a bit early  That said - I got an email about a giftcard I had sold - saying payment was due this week for £117! I'd bought a TV in Nov with treat fund/birthday money, then the price dropped a bit later during Black Friday so I rang the seller and they refunded the difference. Some of the money I will use to clear some debt and some I'll hold back I think.

    Today I am grateful for:

    1) Time spent with Mum and Dad and the laughs we had
    2) A yummy lunch - thank you parentals!
    3) Coming home to my cosy little flat :)

Have a good evening folks x

Good evening everybody from Turtle 31!

Mothernerd - Good luck with the drains! I had awful problems when living in a ground floor flat. My shower was the lowest point in the house so when the drains backed up... Ick! The landlord was pretty good at sorting it out though. "Flushable" wipes were the cause.

This has been a spendy day today but a really enjoyable one. I have bought a weekend bus ticket (£7) and withdrawn £20. This has been spent on a bag of rice (45p), Dad's Morning with Little Turtle (£1.50), unlimited refillable coffee at Spoons (£1.35), a round of drinks (£5.75) and a pint of Spingo Christmas Special (£3.11, substituted for a beer that wasn't available and not charged for upgrade). Ended up with £8.91 in my wallet for the week. Also transferred payment for veg box that arrived on Wednesday. Hopefully tomorrow will be back to NSDs, but not guaranteed.

    Today I am thankful for:

    1) Good times with good friends and Little Turtle, and them graciously putting up with her presence on the pub crawl.
    2) Beetroot and Split Pea Curry!
    3) Pub having Spingo Christmas Special on tap!

Most DIY problems can be solved by a combination of spanner, pliers, screwdriver, Allan key and a blade. (Hold it, twist it, cut it!) Very occasionally industrial language, a hammer and an adhesive may need to be added to the mix. (Curse it, hit it, patch it!)

Ceiling! I wouldn't make the spiders homeless apple. I'm still trying to encourage them back after Beloved burnt peppermint oil to make them go away and then wondered why we were plagued by flies all summer.

I have been expecting it since we had the leak under the bath, it was only a matter of time. Just need to decide whether to patch it or include lowering the ceiling as part of the plan for the new kitchen. The pieces that have fallen were damp on the hidden side so it wil benefit from having air circulating to make sure it's dried out properly and no rot developing. I moved the microwave before Christmas as a precaution as it was in the line of fire.

I have spent money today. I went out to buy more drain gel plus a new tarpaulin in case I want to get down on the floor outside. Couldn't get the other things I was on the lookout for but the metal buckets I liked but wouldn't pay £6 for were 99p each in the sale. If the weather is reasonable and I can sit in a chair outside, I can start digging out the existing raised beds and put the slurry and other compostable materials in between two layers of soil to rot down.

Not promising anything - will be sensible and not do anything to make myself more ill. Beloved phoned her dad this afternoon and he suggested clearing the hopper as much as possible and tomorrow we are going to try a garden hose (thin but firm type)

to prod and flush (hopefully it will be able to get past the lowest part we have exposed so far). if not it's waiting for the phone call on Monday.

A friend of mine is currently having awful problems with raw sewage flooding her front step from the renters next door flushing all manner of unflushable items. STW won't even come out to her any more, although they have done 3 times before due to it, and cleared the problem.
Foxh0les just saw this one, surely they are not irresponsible idiots because they are renting! Just mentioning. I see a lot of random comments on threads on the forum here and elsewhere (so nothing personal to you) vilifying renters, and I hate to say it, but in general you have to be a lot more careful with your actions when you are renting as nobody can kick you out of your home if you have a mortgage.

  • Evening everyone
Just checking in on the past 2 days. I've had a very relaxing couple of days - just pottering at home, short walk with DD1 who is recovering from the lurgy, sorted service plan for new car, sent money to DD2 at uni and nephew who had his birthday last week.
Have bought a few bits of food and a dress in the sales - within my budget for this month.
Almost managed another NSD yesterday but met up with Book Group friends for prosecco to celebrate friend's 60th - her treat - but we all contributed £2 towards an orchid for the birthday girl. That was my only spend yesterday.
    Gratitudes:
Lovely sunny day yesterday so got out for a lovely walk
Great evening catching up with Book Group friends
Went to DD1's bestie's this morning for pancakes for breakfast :)

Ditty - the comment about renters was simply that the renters say it is the landlord's responsibility to fix it, the landlord says it is the renters responsibility for flushing unflushables and STW saying we will only fix it if the owner agrees to pay upfront, who will then have to bill the tenant, who has already decided to refuse to pay, and my friend has to have words with all 3 of them, and the problem still goes on. It just adds another level of people to have to complain to whilst paddling through sewage on your way in and out to the bin. It is her neighbour who is in the wrong, and the neighbour happens to be a renter who does not care about the condition of the drains.

Oh dear mothernerd - but at least it was not unexpected. It has happened twice to me in this house, and will happen again as soon as I remove the anaglypta in the kitchen. Makes a hell of a noise doesn't it? I was stood at the front door talking to the postman when the ceiling at the top of the stairs fell down. Cue Apocalyptal dust cloud. You have to laugh, don't you.

  • Hello turtles
Friday = work + general exhaustion + early night
Saturday = spendy day. Took dd to get her acrylics off then went into town to meet a friend for a long, leisurely lunch, coffee and natter. It was lovely - good for the soul. I didn't pay for lunch as she'd had a bingo win, but I did spend money on dd's nails and a little bit of stationery stuff for my planner, which my friend is encouraging me to keep to try and get a bit better organised than I currently am.
Came home via Mr S because for some reason the kids are out of breaded chicken bits again, and I got some money out of the bank to pay for my boiler service on Tuesday (then I won't have to count it again)
Mothernerd, I am so pleased that you've decided to get someone to have a look at the drains for you. I admire how much you want to do yourself, but echo the others who think that this one may need a specialist.
