NST January 2020: A Turtle Quest

Quick check in for me. Both my health and the weather have put me off going outside. I have been alternately sweating and freezing all night and had to remove my mask several times to clear my nose. My eyes and my nose are red and sore - I can still read but may not check in later as screen work is causing me discomfort. So the emphasis for today is doing what I can starting from where I am (and getting back on the bed when things get tough).
Have gathered up assorted tissues (I normally use handkerchiefs but have been using a combination of hankies, rags - old t-shirt sleeves are much kinder to my poor nose - grabbing ends of toilet rolls every time I go in the bathroom and some bits of kitchen roll I found under the bed (don't use kitchen roll either but I buy myself 2 'Snowman' ones at Christmas to cheer myself up (found a bit of last years under the bed so no recent purchase). But how I ended up with the remnants of 2 white kitchen rolls is a mystery.
Tissues and rubbish have been binned, paper sack is filling nicely (most of it tiny scraps saved from old notebooks and then sacked when the info has been put in the right place - address/ password book, new notebook etc). Want to make some mini plastic pockets to fix in the front and back of my new diary to hold things like the 2 page condensed version of mum's health securely- not rewriting it.
Found 2 missed carrier bags to start a new collection for the cs and a cs bag to start next pile of donations. retrieved another gift bag from downstairs and found a brown bag with 2 triangular decorative tins I bought 1/2 price in Betswy-Coed. I thought they might do as tea caddies for part of beloved's next year present but if I'm careful I could use them as gift wrap (bamboo toothbrush/ min candle and soap from cs or my drawer, homemade sewing accessories). Also saved some bubble wrap and scraps of pretty paper - will use brown paper and add letters/ shapes to decorate - hoping all of this will fit in the one small brown bag.
Cleared and swept the floor at the side of the bed, used a jute bag to collect washing up/ recycling - mostly cutlery and plastic bottles as yesterday was lots of drinks (empty bottles have a cupboard at the side of the sink for refilling), yoghurt, tinned fruit etc - was going to make a cup-a-soup but forgot and wasn't going to attempt going back downstairs.
Will put some of my best clothes away in the wardrobe and leave the tired but wearable stuff hung up for everyday. have left two embroidery projects at mum's and will attempt at least two hours a day when the light is good (once my eyes stop hurting). Lots of other bits to be getting on with including insurances and energy suppliers for mum but will rest a lot, drink plenty and eat easy to swallow stuff.
Today I am grateful for my bed (and the pillows and the sheets), good reading material and having the room a little more organised (bit by bit and stop when it hurts or makes me dizzy). I have clean hair which is wonderful. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
Today I am aching! Still aching from gym on Friday, then went again this morning and am just feeling it now! Luckily I have a sports massage booked tomorrow. Not very frugal but I have a health cash plan so I can claim back part of the cost. Not had a sorts massage before but I really feel it's needed as I just feel so tight and sore!
Met up with a friend and went to watch some polo together as we're both horsey. Bought hot drinks and food with us so it was a no spend meet up, but I did do my additional charity donation today (a koala charity in Australia) so I won't be counting today as a NSD.
Need to get ready for work, have a home visit first thing and left the stuff I was going to do at work on my desk, so have to think of something else, grrrr.
Slow cooker bolognese for dinner later (veggie one for me) and some free birthday cake from my niece's birthday as pudding. Doing well grocery wise and have also bought plenty of frozen veg to help bulk out my lunches.0 -
We have had a minor miracle this weekend. Apart from spending on the boiler service (which was planned and budgeted for ) we haven't spent any other money all weekend, this has also meant that no new items have arrived in our house which makes a change.
Have had a long muddy walk this afternoon, one yesterday afternoon too.
Have a charity bag on the go which is almost full, have asked DD to look through her clothes to see if there is anything she wants to add and there is a couple of items in the wash which will be added soon. I have a pair of boots which I am going to wear tomorrow and if they still rub me they will be going in too.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Today I am grateful for finding a few more bits and bobs for dd's birthday, for dd having a great afternoon with some friends round, for it being easy to tidy up after the friends, for hoovers, for my morning workout, for warmth and food.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0

Hello everyone
I have achieved a NSD todayThink that makes 5/16.
However, I have completed my tax return which has produced a scary big numberNeed to logon in a couple of days and check it is that scary big number that is owing as last year I got myself in a right state but I was reading it wrongly - fingers crossed I'm mistaken again but I'm not too confident. I'm waiting for payment of an invoice but that won't cover it in full if it is the aforementioned amount....
Bit concerned over the security of some of my self employment at the moment. I do have a FT and PT role but was using self employment to clear my debt. Trying not to panic !
Bought some clothes online for new job but returning most of them as they are not suitable/flattering and the dress I bought in the sales yesterday is much nicer and half the price. Will help with aforementioned tax bill - arghhh!
I have had a nice walk and a nice chat with DD2 on the phone.
DD1 cooked a lovely late lunch and has promised to clear up in the kitchen too.....
Gratitudes:
DD1 cooking lunch
DD2 being happy at uni
kind friend for fixing my door handle FOC
Hope everyone is having a nice day and poorly turtles are soon back to better health XXLBM - October 2018; finally debt free on 16 March 2021

Question everything- I am looking at food and asking if it’s good value, rather than on special/cheap price.
Unloved, unused - 4 bay items sold and some veg received for free via food sharing app
Exercise- 10,000 steps
Save- saved electric/the planet by drying washing in the good weather rather than on heater
Thanks- I’m grateful for my mum, my friends and my family
Today I spent £3 on a coffee with friends and 70p on ys bread as yesterday’s ys bread was a false economy.Jan 20 - NST challenge

NSD yesterday taking me to 8/16
Today I bought some washing tabs, coffee, milk, sugar, eggs and bread. I'm grateful for feeling slightly more human, a chat with my brother and a cosy flat.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86

Today was a LSD with a £2 purchase of 6 ramekins for Little Turtle's weaning meal prep and £1 in the pot for a stein of cider consumed in the house. I also tried a hot chocolate souffle recipe. Never made a souffle of any kind before and SWMBO was feeling down, I had chocolate and she liked it! However, the egg separator I bought on Amazon doesn't work, so put in a return request.
Today I am thankful for:
1) Learning how to spell souffle (although still need to find out how to do an accented e on Linux) as well as making one.
2) My cat
3) On demand entertainment and not being tethered to the evils of scheduled programming.Mortgage free by 33 - (21/07/22 - 32 years and a bit...)
Most DIY problems can be solved by a combination of spanner, pliers, screwdriver, Allan key and a blade. (Hold it, twist it, cut it!) Very occasionally industrial language, a hammer and an adhesive may need to be added to the mix. (Curse it, hit it, patch it!)0 -

Mothernerd, I hope you get better soon! For severe colds, we have a stash of paper tissues with aloe vera (or similar lotion). Normally, we use cotton handkerchiefs or normal cheapy paper tissues (either a folded package or from a box), but when we need to use a lot of tissues, we use the lotioned ones, they really do help keep your nose unscathed.
