Looks like the advice given was sub-optimal then, as those who did not cancel and whose payment date is post-collapse, have paid an extra month into the refund pot, AND still don't get the benefit of d/d rates until BG set a new on up.0 -

Hindsight is said to be a wonderful thing.
We were a customer of breeze energy, paid monthly by DD (usually on the 25th of each month) and left our DD active as originally advised by MSE in their news article.
Just checked with online bankinmg today, and no DD has been collected by breeze this month, presumably as they have gone bust.
Online banking is showing Breeze DD mandate as still active.
Was hoping that BG would carry over the DD instruction, as I understand has been the practise in previous energy supplier failures.
However, got the email from BG yesterday, so now awaiting to set up a new DD instruction with them.
So no, I have not paid any money into what you call the refund pot. (whatever that may be)
In any event, I'm not worried as I have been promised any credit balance that may be due once the final bill has been calculated is fully protected. British Gas will repay it.
In the event my final bill indicates I owe Breeze a small amount for the energy they supplied, perhaps the Breeze administrators will have access to the live DD mandate to settle the final bill? But I'll await confirmation of what the arrangements will be.
But your post reminds me why I don't bother posting here very often, and for that I thank you!0 -

Well done, sounds like you were luckier than zanzib.
Myself, I decided to do what Ofcom said I could, which was to cancel my d/debit and make my own luck, after I found out BG were taking over. I'd rather pay a higher rate for a few weeks rather than risk potentially months of hassling BG to get my refund.
The advice here COULD have turned out right, but did not in this particular instance. If following this advice, I'd have expected a d'd discount to be honoured if the d/d was left intact. With BG at the helm, it doesn't seem a battle worth fighting.0 -
...
Just checked my Breeze account- can still log in and access details. Annoyed to find this month's DD still went out on the 26th, even though they were no longer in business.
When you are in the bank today, check your bank account.
The 26th of December was Boxing Day.
Boxing Day is a Bank Holiday, so no DD's were collected from anyone's bank account on that day0 -

Luckier?
Well if having access to online banking you suggest I'm lucky then perhaps I am. But I thought many people have that today, or at least telephone banking - saves a trip to the nearest bank branch, which may be many, many miles away what with all the nbanks shutting their branches, but that's another topic.
When I looked at my online Breeze account, yes it too indicated that a DD was collected from my on 25th of December - Christmas Day :rotfl:
I was looking to see if it would be collected later, perhaps last Friday, yesterday or today, because if it was, then I'm lucky because I know I am fully protected by the terms of the Direct Debit Guarantee. As lucky as everyone else who uses Firect Debit as a payment method for anything.
But no, no collections have been made in favour of Breeze this month from my bank account.
I suspect everything will be resolved by the time the fnal bill is produced.
I take it your not a fan of the Big 6 then?
There was a time I remember that we had the choice of the Big 1 when it came to gas supply.
A few pennies extra for a few weeks isn't going to worry us too much. 'We never had it so good' as the saying goes.
'But all good things must come to an end' as another saying goes.
But in the new year, when everything settles down, I'll do a comparison.
I remember last month the MSE email was advertising a good British Gas tariff. I don't think it's available anymore, but maybe they will introduce a new deal for the new year? Or maybe MSE will do a collective with someone?
I'll have a look when the time comes. but as I say, a few extra pennies now isn't hurting - I saved a small fortune over the months I was with Breeze. It's the risk you take when you opt for a really small supplier with really cheap prices. Shame it was forced to end early, but that's life.

The founder of MoneySupermarket might disagree with you !
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion., and I respect that
As everyone is able to create a user account to post theor opinions on this forum. If he was the founder, does that mean he nopw ownbs this site? If so, he can definitely have his own account if he wants it.
If/ when he posts here with his possibly misguided opinion, maybe I'll come and educate him.
But I can't read the article as it's behind a paywall.
Fortunately, Ofgem, MSE, Breeze, and British Gas websites are all available to me free of charge :money:
But then I was accused of being lucky. :cool:0 -
Ive had a email but it only mentions my electricity supply.
I had my gas with Breeze too.
Just spent the last hour unsuccessfully trying to connect to British Gas online chat.
Something is telling me this whole transfer is going to cause me a headache :eek:0 -

I had two emails (one for gas , the other for electric) two minutes apart but one of them went into my spam folder. Perhaps you should check.0 -
