I'd pursue it with the regulator, launching triple complaints with Breeze, BG and your new provider if necessary. Your botttom line is certainly not what is intended, and IIRC your loss runs into hundreds of pounds.

This reply was to my official complaint to BG.
I have written again the Ombudsman sent this BG correspondence.
No faith in him as previously he rejected my complaint about BG as I'm not a BG customer also rejected my complaint about Breeze as I'm not a Breeze customer having left.

I find this astonishing. At the very least, you WERE a customer of Breeze and he should be willing to help you out one way or another.
This sounds like a very nasty loophole in the rules. In fact, it's not a loophole, it's just a trap where the ombudsman can;'t be bothered to do his job and honour the spirit of the rules.
I'd be tempted to try and flag it to the MSE team (or a newspaper if you can put up with the publicity).

Thanks for that advice, just now awaiting his response and it's only a few days since letter sent to him.

Point ofgem at their own website.
    https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications-and-updates/breeze-energy-customers-your-questions-new-supplier-british-gas

I’ve left Breeze Energy, but have a credit balance.  Will British Gas pay me this money?

British Gas will honour credit balances for both current and past customers of Breeze Energy who are owed money.

British Gas will review details of any debt or credit on your account. Wait for them to contact you with relevant instructions. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have on credit on your account. The review process can take some time, as British Gas needs to get and review your records from Breeze Energy. When calculating your credit balance, British Gas will deduct any unbilled charges for your supply by Breeze Energy. These are calculated by Breeze Energy’s administrators.

Looks fine in print, but not in practice.
The Administrator done his bit and sent my money to BG, BG told me a cheque on the way, did not arrive advised BG and raised Complaint put in, BG investigated and now say they not got my money because I left Breeze.
Your post indicates it could take the Ombudsman quiet awhile to look into this.

Maybe escalate to the British Gas ceo, directing him towards the Ofgem link?
    www . ceoemail . com / s.php?id=ceo-9519
If it were me, I'd call it a "letter before action", but then I'm aggressive with companies who try to steal my money.

I was one of the lucky ones who did get their Breeze cheque refund from BG.  This morning I have received an email from BG weeks after the refund was made and cheque was banked  ... looks like they must have nothing better to do!!

Sorry we called your Breeze credit a Warm Home Discount
``You were in credit with Breeze, your previous energy supplier, when they stopped trading last December and we took over.
We applied that credit to your final bill from us. But we called it a Warm Home Discount by mistake - sorry for the confusion.
Don`t worry, you got the right amount
We`ve double-checked the figures and we gave you the right amount of credit.  So you can still cash the cheque we sent you. We`re just writing for your information``

British Gas just never stop! Whilst I have received my credit balance refund, you would think that to be the end of the matter, but alas no, British Gas are now trying to bill me for energy usage that never happened. The mystery or phantom energy usage is based on meter readings taken as an estimate from an old Gas Meter that was removed last Nov19 (I was not even a BG customer then)? Even though I have explained this, British Gas just respond with a wall of silence. My current supplier Yorkshire Energy have raised a Gas-Dispute with BG but am told the process is likely to take 8 weeks to resolve.....you just couldn’t make this rubbish up? I have raised a formal complaint, two weeks ago, and am still waiting for any response!
