Personally i would have downloaded and run the free Mozbackup before I started to touch this. Perhaps it is still not too late, but with all the changes etc who knows?
Perhaps next time a backup routine, and one for the PC too?0 -
So... what happens? Are you returned to the prompt? Is the cursor still flashing? Does the cursor disappear indicating the command is running but not completing?
Do you see "firefox.exe" appear in the Task List when you do this?
When reinstalling firefox icon does appear on the desktop & taskbar but when I click on the desktop icon all that appears is new tab page with no detail on it0 -
As has been said a million times above, it's your profile. When you remove firefox, it doesn't remove your profile in case you want to keep your settings and data, so re-installing will use the same profile. Get rid of your profile and it should load up without any problems.0

Great -- so Firefox is working correctly again?
If you're still having problems, use the Profile Manager to create a new profile and test with that.0 -

No it is not working I have now reformated using recovery manager and is will not reinstall operating system so I suspect something the 'experts' have said has wiped the information0 -

Come off it sunshine, that's not what you said in your new thread. In here you said you had been "dealing with and repairing computers for years". This was easy to fix, all you had to do was reload Windows and you've managed to make a hash of that.
Perhaps throwing £40 at the repair shop could have been money well spent and you'd be on a freshly built laptop tonight.0 -
I would install Linux - Mint is a good choice for beginners - problem solved.0

If you could see the "new tab" page, then Firefox could at least start. Firefox requires a an active profile to function, so I'd be surprised if the Profile Manager wouldn't run.No it is not working I have now reformated using recovery manager and is will not reinstall operating system so I suspect something the 'experts' have said has wiped the information
What information were you expecting not to be wiped by reformatting? In all your years of computer repair, you must have needed to format a disk at some point...?
Anyway, I vaguely remember having problems installing Windows 10 on a fully partitioned disk. I think the OS wanted to create multiple partitions itself. So I deleted the OS partition and let Win10 create and format new ones in the free space.
Obviously, deleting partitions will wipe information too.0
