Oooh I'm feeling super clever and frugal here. I made the first coaster but when I pressed it flat with the iron, it half melted the acrylic fibres. It made me think that a hot cup of tea would do a simialr thing so the acrylic yarn is no good for this.
The coasters are the peeking cat butt ones on Ravelry (very cute and funny). I already have grey cotton yarn that I can use, but I didn't really fancy going out to buy a whole ball of pink yarn, just to make 4 butts.
It suddenly occurred to me that I have 3 fresh beetroots in the veg box, waiting to be dealt with. I am now dyeing a tiny bit of natural cotton yarn with the peelings!
EDIT: Gutting, it didn't take at all. Maybe the cotton has been treated with something. Oh well, it was a free experiment
ED EDIT: Have just had a rootle in my yarn stash and found some pink cotton that my mum's friend gave me that I'd popped away and forgotten about. Crisis over!LBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013Total repaid: £10,490.310 -
Afternoon all,
Ziggy I hope you're mum is doing ok. I think you're an amazing daughter too
Clf, I don't know what I expected when I searched up the peeking cats but they're very cute (and I'm not a cat person!)
Dawn, I hope all goes well tonight!
Today we have
* had breakfast at home rather then brunch out like we'd have done in the old days!
* dh went to the oxfam book shop and he picked up a couple of books for £1.99 each a lot cheaper then buying new.
* I bought some dvds from cex, I came away with 8 dvds and felt like I had robbed them walking away paying £7 in vouchers
* Lunch was lasagne from the freezer that we didn't get round to eating in the week. Just what we needed after a bitterly cold morning in town!
* Talked with the kids about when their ps plus subscription ends and asked if they wanted to resubscribe..they did, its 25 % off on a black fri deal but when they realised that we weren't offering to pay it they decided not to bother with it
* Dh and I are going to look at the n0wtv deal and decide what to do about it.
* Took two fruit pies out of the freezer to take to my folks tomorrow when we go for brunch.
* Food tonight will be either soup/roll or soup/fishfinger sandwich I think
Time to make a drink then watch some rugby with dh
Doesn't take much to make me happy.
Take care all.Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

Will make some lamb meatbals for dinner, as just went on a big shop today, apart from that entertainment today was a 5 M run and the rest of the Irishman w ds later - on his dads Netflix.
Will probably get a tv package for new years - we are away over Christmas.
Still need to clean kitchen, shower, make dinner and maybe soak oats for porridge tomorrow morning - to have a hot meal before going out volunteer marshalling a half marathon - no way am I running that far.
Hope everybody is well. It's been a busy week so have not had much time to read.Isa help to buy: 1000/3000 33%

Ziggy - You really do right by your Mum. You are always doing things to help her out & I know this duty isn't really always really shared out equally. You must have the patience of a saint at times. Parents can be very bad patients, sometimes, as they often think they know better than the Dr, don't they? So as several of us have given you a big pat on the back, you should give yourself one too! Hope your Mum is picking up now with the anti-bios. I do think elderly people sometimes need a longer course of these, as their immune systems often not what they were.
Take care,

Evening all,
I had a very productive morning cleaning windows and scrubbing the kitchen and cleaning the fridge.
Used up some bread from the freezer for eggs on toast for breakfast for the 5 of us.
Tea came from the freezer too.
Currently wide awake as I fell asleep on the sofa this afternoon (something I rarely do) so I hope I'm not coming down with something.
Went to tesc0 this evening and got some festive bits and some advent calendars. Kids are getting excited!
Fingers crossed I will sleep soon!
Hope everyone's having a decent weekend.mortgage £800 overpayment 2022. £600/£2400 2023 🙂 savings £1853/£1800 😊0 -

Ah Sunday and no plans
Yesterday was quite a busy day so looking forward to an easy day today
Washing in machine already. D/S is tidy as spent 10 mins last night putting everything away
Planning to do some sewing, go for a walk, do hw with madam. Maybe games/film this afternoon.
Need to iron madam's clothes for the week ahead
Will be dropping pup to co-owners this morning and won't see him for another week. I find it easier to make sure I have a walk when I have him.
Need to slice and freeze some ys bread I picked up yesterday
Think that's my lot! Hope you all have a great dayDF as at 30/12/16

Morning all. Just a quick check in before I head off for work.
I've got into a good routine with the heating now - working shifts makes it complicated, for example I could be getting home at just gone 9 at night, the heating's been on all evening and is just going off as I get in!! So - I now reset it every day depending on what my shift is, so that it's off while I'm at work but comes on about an hour before I get home. Yes, I know I could get a fancy device so I could switch it off and on from my mobile, but those things cost money and this is all about saving money!!
Sandwiches for lunch. With the increased overtime, I'm having at least one meal at work nearly every day - I need some inspiration for what to take for lunch, as I'm seriously bored with the sandwich situation!! We have a microwave in the staff room, so I think I might start using it.
Dinner tonight will be from the freezer - chilli con carne, so I'll cook up some rice to go with it. That should warm me through - it's cold at work!!
Keep cosy everyone!

Can't get much done today as I'm in work. Although mse in itself as am earning, not spending!

You can do jacket spuds in the slow cooker. Just wrap them in foil and leave on low overnightLBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013Total repaid: £10,490.310
