What small DFW things will you do w/c 25th November?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

Ooo I don't like setting up a new thread this late in the morning! Hope everyone is doing ok.

    Todays list
    * gym done, refilled water bottle there and did two classes to get back to making the most of my membership :)
    * all had porridge for breakfast - continuing to use up the tub of (very) out of date powdered milk :)
    * check banking/update spreadsheet
    * make families lunches for tomorrow
    * tidy fridge/ fruit bowl - making sure nothing goes to waste
    * rough meal plan needs doing - should be quite easy as my freezer inventory is up to date
    * work out how to set the printer to work wirelessly from ds's computers

Thats my start. Take care all.

Hello 1LL & all who follow,
I was up & about nice & early this morning, raring to go for the new week. My focus this week will be on:
*Our finances - am waiting for a couple of important letters, then I can set up an appointment in town to move a couple of major things on. My regular monthly Big Budget Day will also fall this week (Weds), so I will be getting on with that & also starting to put a bit more thought towards our financial future.
*Christmas preparation - Almost all gifts now bought/made & am up to date with wrapping. This week's priority will be finishing writing our Christmas cards.
*Sensible money saving measures - Energy in particular. Simple things, like continuing to close curtains at tea time, not waste hot water, wearing plenty of layers to keep downstairs heating off as long into the day as possible, etc. Also laundry on overnight tariff - the usual things.
*Stick to meal plans & do all my usual round-ups of anything in the fridge or veg baskets which needs to be frozen so as to avoid food waste. Avoid top-up shops - a couple of tiny ones creeping in lately & always another item or two popped in the basket, we all know how it works.....
*Continue to knit my new jumper - also cast on a smaller project from my yarn stash which will involve very little concentration. I can swap to knitting this if I am watching TV or chatting to someone.
*Keep on top of all the usual routine domestic stuff, particularly tidying & decluttering......or rather atm, I am dealing with items before they can build up & become clutter.
*Progress a couple of personal projects - neither of which involve any financial outlay, just my time & the will to do them.
*Hopefully some free fitness this week doing at least some garden clearing. The garden is completely waterlogged atm & guess what. it's raining again today, but I really am hoping I can manage at least a couple of intensive hour-long sessions continuing to clear the borders & replant sections as I go along.
OK, so I'm thinking not too much of a potentially spendy nature there, I just need to work up a momentum. I much prefer to be busy, though, so off we go into the new week!
    Cheers all,
    F xx

  • Trying_again - re the vertigo - if your symptoms are similar to mine, then you can do the vestibular rehab exercises yourself at home. They are easy and won't do you any harm. My vertigo is a bit weird as it's more of a lurching feeling than spinning. Plus generally feeling swaying and off kilter. It's triggered by detailed work (knitting, pc work) and things like supermarkets, and sprung floors!

If this resonates with you I'll pm you some stuff.

    Afternoon folks!

OH gigging again last night. I was feeling fairly chipper and treated myself to a glass of wine. I can really tell if I've had any alcohol now since I've barely drank since the start of September. I kind of enjoyed it but it's made me tired today and my tummy feels a bit squiffy. What a lightweight eh?!

    Today's things:
:heartpuls B/L/D from stores - use various veg lurking in the fridge. Also realised I didn't need to buy a chicken as have found various bits of meat lurking in the freezer. - done
    :heartpuls Check PMP - done
:heartpuls Charge phone in work - done
:heartpuls Put bits together for tomorrow's lunch - done
:heartpuls Heating off all day - done
:heartpuls Wash on 30 deg - done

But more excitingly my new dehumidifier is being delivered today! You know you've hit your mid-thirties when this is a great source of excitement :rotfl:
    - dagnammit we missed the delivery. Will rebook to be delivered to work

    Have a good one all

  • Thank you 1LL for starting us off this week. Being technically challenged I couldn't figure out how to start a new thread.

So I was up early too as Himself was off to the Health Centre for more blood tests. t's been productive though. So far I have:

Checked the bank accounts and moved some money
Cleared and a tidied a kitchen cupboard and disposed of some unneeded and frankly past their best cooking trays and dishes.
    Changed bedding
Done three loads of washing - now hanging upstairs drying.
Defrosted and tidied both freezers. Always a joy to find what Himself has sneaked in when I wasn't looking
    Cleaned cooker.
Used up the remainder of the mushrooms with some toast for lunch. Himself is having butteries - you really do not want to know how many I found in the freezer.
Sausages for dinner defrosting. Himself has prepared veg and made a mustard mash.

    To do:

    Clean and tidy fridge
    Wipe down surfaces in Kitchen

Well, that's all that's on my list for today. Another long one tomorrow.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

Hi, I really need to concentrate on the little things as I've done lots of big stuff to try and get our finances in order. So I'm hoping to get some new ideas from you all!
So today I've got some yellow sticker pork chops out of the freezer for tea, to go with some potatoes from the garden and some veg in the fridge which needs eating up.
Also I've managed to not use the heating as much so a good start.
    mortgage £800 overpayment 2022. £600/£2400 2023 🙂 savings £1853/£1800 😊

  • DFW for this week
Using cars eco mode at all opportunities
Dropping clothes to school, will keep toys to give to charity, she good owns be for Xmas gifts in there
    Pack lunches
Working from home two days will save some cash on fuel, coffee, washing work clothes plus my sanity. Hoping it can become a permanent thing, will see.
Check banks, am on my last pennies until payday but nothing else should go out now. All card repayments are on standing orders set up for start of month, much better than the direct debits whenever the cards wanted it.
Slow cooker potato curry tonight and DD is on board coming up with ideas what to make from cupboards and freezer bless her.
Signed up for TV surveys, will do pick my postcode too

Am dithering over selling stuff on ebay, I always managed to lose money plus my lunch break doing this. I just give stuff to charity now, but feel like I'm losing out. But I was literally making one penny or a loss on stuff!

That's it, will add more as I think of it.

    Afternoon all :)
    Today's list:
Been to sales unit and restocked
Claimed another £5 Amaz*n voucher from a survey site
Checked banks and moved some money
Paid in a cheque for OH
Had to throw away two satsumas that had gone mouldy in the fruit bowl :(

    Still to do:
Put stuff I bought back from my sales unit away
And while I am at it, sort out the loft as it is a mess and I will need to put stuff in there from the spare room when relatives visit next week

Some cooking - I need to make a pheasant soup with leftovers from yesterday's pot roast, and some kind of ham / lentil / leek thing.
Need to paddle out in the garden and pick some cold, muddy leeks - unless I can persuade OH to do it :D

Dinner today will be cold meat, jacket potatoes and salad to use stuff up
    That should keep me busy!
